(Rumor) PlayStation 3 achievements clone on the way

PlayStation 3 could be getting achievements similar to the XBox 360. Sony has already announced a "Trophy Room" for PlayStation Home last year, but Sony is working on more than just this. Achievements on the PlayStation platform will not be a mere figure easily displayed on an online card, but will be considerably more indepth and broad in information presented.

If Eric Lempel, director of the PlayStation Network, is to be believed, the PlayStation equivalent of achievements will, "recognize our consumers' gaming skills and loyalty in new ways". Could this mean that gamers will receive tangible rewards for playing games? Exact details are still unclear but hopefully Sony has something to share on the whole matter soon.

    What are they going to do for the 70 odd titles that are already out? Just make a patch for them all? This will be quite a bit of work.

    Yeah, they are supposed to make a patch for them. That's what I heard. In home you'll have a "trophy cabinet" so when you invite your "friends" round, you can show off your "trophies". I think these trophies give your in home rewards, such as extra stuff for your flat, and other customisation options.

    Anybody else that mentions the word "copying" or "stealing" should really wake the *bleep* up. The Achievement feature was obviously taken from games that had THEIR OWN award system...and seriously, just about anyone steals each others ideas nowadays. Dear god guys, be a little bit more aware about past technology if you're gonna spit out crap like that.

    Hell I don't remember those words when Microsoft decided to bluntly shove it in SCE's face when they announced that the 360 could do a better job in running Folding @ Home.
