When I first entered Kansai airport in Osaka, I was greeted with a half-hour long queue, a fingerprinting machine, and a "mug shot" photo. Well Kansai must have thought that was a little unwelcoming for the foreginers (duh!) and have now introduced a welcoming commitee - in the form of anime and game cosplayers!

Now whenever foreign tourist arives at Kansai, they can expect to be greeted by a group of excited cosplayers and have the chance for photo opportunities.

Kansai airport in Osaka is now welcoming foreigners to Japan with not only a fingerprinting system but also a bunch of cosplayers. The cosplayers include maids and the standard anime and game characters. An organizer says that they want to monetize from foreigners using Osaka's otaku culture.

Lol, another reason to love Japan, they always try to be different and cool, and doing this for foreigners just adds to the reasons to love Japan imo.

Wow Japan is really embracing its Gaming heritage huh? I wish other countries would be more open about games, not necessarily in the same way as Japan but bringing gaming a little more into the open

Tbh, I'd rather be greeted by people wearing a kimono or other traditional outfit. I reckon that'd interest more tourists anyway (since many tourists come for the history and the culture).
Having cosplayers greet people just gives off the impression that Japan is all about anime and games ... which I doubt many Japanese would think is a good thing.

But *meh* whatever floats their boat.
