In just 26 months, Guitar Hero has sold over one billion dollars between it's four games and game accessories. In just 2007 alone Guitar Hero III was the best selling game between all the consoles and tracks for the game have reached a total download amount of over 5 million, that's double what Rock Band users have downloaded.

"Guitar Hero is one of the biggest brands and one of the most powerful distribution platforms in all of entertainment today," said Michael Griffith, president and CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. "Guitar Hero's popularity with broad audiences is a confirmation that video games have become a true mass medium."

But wait, there's one more feather for Activision to stick in their no-doubt very large and well ornamented hat: since Guitar Hero III's release in November, it has surpassed 5 million song downloads, doubling the 2.5 million songs downloaded through Rock Band. Damn.

Misleading title. They've raked in $1 billion.

Yeah the title was very misleading. I doubt any game can sell one billion copies.

Both of you get thumbs down for those statements. I'd be willing to bet a thousand dollars that no one actually thought one billion copies of the game had been sold.

That would mean that 1/6 of the world's population owns a copy.

    Logic, fellas. Learn it.

I don't think the title was misleading. To "rake in" something usually implies money. I thought that was a common saying.
