NYKO review: Wii Gaming Accessories

mistermostyn | January 23, 2008 | News | Wii
Generally speaking, the majority of third-party accessories and peripherals are a bit of a let down compared to their first-party counterpasts... but that's something NYKO is striving to change.

M&C Gaming takes a look at the Charge Station, Net Connect Adaptor, and Perfect Shot gun grip.
The NYKO Charge Station arrives on the accessory market as an ambitious attempt to kill not one, not two, but three birds of concern with one stone by addressing a selection of Wii concerns in a single sturdy little package.

Specifically, although the Wii has been lauded for its motion-sensing controls and demographic-busting invention, having to periodically switch out, replace, or charge a pair of AA batteries in the Wii Remote has attracted a degree of criticism.

The majority of gun cradles that I've seen or found have been more enticing or comfier-looking than the Wii Zapper. Pistol > tommy-gun

Read the reviews on the Charge Station. Many people are having issues.

    - You have to remove the wrist strap to charge the battery.
    - The batteries don't appear to last very long (don't recharge very many times) and you need to replace the Charge Station to get new batteries.
    - The charger has over charged the batteries to the point of melting the battery pack.
    - The overcharging has damaged some Wiimotes. That's not covered by the Wii warranty. There is an expensive lesson.

^ Continuing off that, it is also not compatible with the Wii remote covers I believe. Your first reason isn't so bad (I and many others don't use the wrist strap anyway) but those last three sound awful. Now I won't even consider buying it.

As the reviewer of the NYKO Charge Station quoted in the article, I can honestly say that M&C Gaming experienced no such problems with the accessory, and we continue to use it without fault.

We have also approached NYKO for an official response on these apparent problems.

I think the pistol may be better. The Wii Zapper is two handed, so it makes it a bit more cumbersome.

I have the Zapper, which is nice, but I think I'll pick up the Perfect Shot too.
