Asia gets a brand new PS2 color: Red!

With this year's Taipei Game Show recently opening, people were wondering what the big companies were going to be dishing out. Well, it looks like Sony is the first to surprise everyone, revealing a brand new color for the Playstation 2: Red.

Looks like the PS2 isn't dying yet ...

At the Taipei Game Show, Sony draped the curtains on a limited edition PlayStation 2 set to arrive in stores on February 4 in Asia. The new color, Aka Takara Kurenai, or (loosely) Crimson Red Treasure comes out just in time for Lunar New Year. While it superficially feels like the PlayStation 2’s days are numbered since the PlayStation 3 is on the market, Sony’s most popular console keeps chugging along.

    It's amazing how many PS2's have been sold lately. Makes me wonder how long Sony will support that console...or if they will continue with games for it.

    I sold my original PS2 3 years ago on eBay. I bought another one just the other day.

    Funny how I would rather spend my money on a PS2 rather than on a PS3.

    I dont understand why people are still supporting the PS2 whilst the PS3 is out there and can play these games already. Either way Red sucks, should have been Blue.

      Well PS2 has better games than the PS3 at the moment. And its also pretty cheap.

    That color is nasty. I wouldn't get it if someone gave it to me for free! (well not really) but I still made my point. ^^

    Not liking the new color. Making a white or blue would have been better.

    I'm...surprised that Sony is still so supportive of the PS2. It seemed to me, anyway, that it was being disposed of rather quickly, Sony doing a virtual 180 to support the PS3. I'd give it another year or two, being friendly to the vast ownership of the system.

    It's odd that they are still making new colors, etc. for the PS2. They should be making new colors for the PS3, if anything.

      I totally agree. They should start doing more stuff with the PS3. Not that I'm saying it's bad that the PS2 is still so popular, but the PS3 is the future.

    I'll just stick with my black one. Red consoles just don't appeal to me. =(
