Turok "Grab Bag" achievement sacked

VeGiTAX2 | January 27, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
While the game makes way to a final product release, Propaganda games releases info of a launch patch to eliminate an achievement which originally required players to kill an enemy, a creature, a team-mate and themselves. The change spurred by community response to the originally 10 point achievement badge, some publications bashed the achievement for the requirement and complaining that it only spurs further problems already existing on the live service, this turned to drive a response from Propaganda to originally say that if the achievement became an issue that they would look into it.

The restructured achievement / accomplishment will include killing an enemy, a creature and then suicide, odd that suicide was still even left into the mix.

As of this point the 360 and PS3 will lose the feature once the player connects to the online servers. A bit of a shame really, it's not like this is going to curb the habits of gamers anyway, if people plan to TK and tea-bag, they're going to do it, the removal of the achievement will not change that. It's not like such things haven't been going on since the very earliest days of multiplayer FPS regardless.

For me, the move acts as a cheap regulation to the online community, if they really had any care to "stop" tk acts, they'd disable team killing in the game itself or install some punishment system for it.
Seems as if they decided instead to get right out in front of it. Since "Grab Bag" only affects the game's online mode, players will likely be forced to download the patch before they can play Turok online.

While the PlayStation 3 does not have a system-wide "Achievements" feature as does the Xbox 360, the PS3 version of Turok features the same list of rewards, called "accomplishments."

The PlayStation 3 patch will also add support for rumble controllers like the upcoming Dual Shock 3 and for 1080i television displays.

I thought they were just altering the achievement by taking out the TK part of it, not removing it.

Removing the TK part of it sacks the original point of the achievement. Allowing it to preserve the name is just an easy way to cut a corner.

If Propaganda was really concerned with people getting team killed they would nuke the ability entirely. They're not trying to stop anything or discourage anything by removing a single requirement though, they still endorse the practice in full.

All developers should really follow Infinity Ward's example with Call of Duty 4 and keep all achievements to offline play. They really can ruin the online experience, Halo 3 is a great recent example which is full of "achievement boosters".
