It was recently reported that Nintendo was having major Super Smash Bros Brawl shortages. Well, it appears the shortages are worse than anyone thought, with most stores only recieving enough copies of Brawl to cover 15% - 25% of their orders! That means over three-quarters of people who have ordered Brawl will not be recieving the game when they expected!

This not only applies to Japanese stores, but also import stores as well.

Looks like this week's release of the Wii fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Japan is more of a paper launch. Retailers are reporting that Nintendo is only shipping enough games to fill a tiny fraction of retail orders on January 31.

NCS says this means, for example, that vendors who ordered 100 copies of the game will only receive 25.

"Nintendo has badly cut preorders placed by all distributors and is only shipping very limited quantities into the market this week," writes Hong Kong importer Play-Asia, where Game|Life has an outstanding order for the game.
It said that it only received enough copies of Smash Bros. to cover 15% of its preorders.

This is the kind of situation that makes or break game sales for games and systems. This game is supposed to be the Wii killer App and yet they can't even get a decent amount of copies when its release. And im sure they had plenty of time to make a decent amount of copies.

Im sorry but this will definitely hurt Nintendo. I hope the game is good other wise Nintendo could be in a very bad situation.

it is called ,releasign sub par products, but releasing them so slowly, everyone thinks they MUST have it. Becuase it is so rare, it makes it look liek the cool thing. That is done by not having much of it. lol. No one cares about the shortages, they just 'Know' it is awesome ,casue they can't hardly find any out there.

        What? That's idiotic.

It's bullshit to say no-one cares about shortages. If somebody pre-orders a game, then they expect a copy of the game to be ready for them when they arrive at the store upon release date. They don't want to wait weeks or months for a game that they should have on the release date.

Making the game "rare" doesn't make the game "look like a cool thing". It just pisses off the thousands of people who ordered the game, yet didn't recieve one.

This is not good for business...Nintendo, you have to be smarter than this. People are upset enough for the delay, but with that delay you could have stocked up.

Lucky for me, I'll be able to get it through a local game store without reservations.

Can Nintendo just get a bit smarter in the idea that THESE SORT OF GAMES ARE BLEEPING POPULAR. A lot of people are going to get it, so a lot of it must be made before release.

May as well say that we'll be getting our reserved copy sometime in May.

Oh, wow. This...this simply isn't funny. Honestly they could have planned manufacturing the game a bit better, taking cues from GTA San Andreas, the entire world was watching that game, yet there were even enough copies for people without pre-orders, like me. Either that, but since this is Japan we're talking about, it may NOT apply to the United States or Europe. Time will tell.

Nice Nintendo, I congrat you on losing points in gamers books. You've lost points with this gamer too.

First off Nintendo doesn't make enough Wii's. Mmmk I think people understand that, there were more sales of it then expected, but from the massive sales, it seemed clear that a game like Brawl was going to need a lot of copies.

Secondly, Nintendo pushes Brawl back a fair bit. I also think that people understood why it was with the sheer amount of features in it, it's completely jam packed of stuff and a game like Brawl needs to be polished to perfection.

Third thing...and this is where Nintendo starts to slip. They kill all PAL release dates and from what I've heard, NEVER confirmed there was a PAL release date at any stage. Thats rather lame all things considered.

Forth wrong doing, and one of the most major ones. Nintendo makes 30,000 copies, a pathetic number for any game release, and considering Brawl, one of the worst moves in the history of the game industry (imo).

Fifth thing is the standard favouritism that is present in the gaming industry. A Hong Kong only release (if I understand correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong), and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they got a lot more copies over anybody else. People may disagree with me calling it favouritism but that's what it seems like to me.

Sixth thing, and the final annoyance is what this article is about, Nintendo only sends a puny amount of copies to stores with MANY pre-orders, this causes people to rush and attempt to be assured of a copy, and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised of some of the methods used to achieve this by certain fruitcakes. Also I wouldn't be surprised if small towns or communities that aren't much for games didn't get a single copy. These two things make other people who deserved a copy and were patient and such to suffer. This is not cool whatsoever. Nintendo is massively slipping these days, and all they are doing is getting gamers pissed off, and that's not a great move for a gaming giant. Granted when everybody who wants a copy of Brawl has one, all will be well, but till then Nintendo should prepare to be hated.

but till then Nintendo should prepare to be hated.
That and losing massive sales both on consoles and the game itself.

Stuff like this like i stated above makes or breaks games and consoles. This has the potential to shoot Nintendo in the rear end. And could hurt them big time. Im a Super Smash Brothers, and Melee fan i loved those two games, but im hardly impressed with this and for some reason this just makes me believe this game will have so much hype and be a utter failure. Im hoping im wrong here cause i loved the past two games, but this is absurd.

They better not screw up the amount of copies when it comes to the UK, considering how long we're gonna have to wait for the game.

    LMAO

I can't wait for this game, but Nintendo have really *bleep*ed up making/distributing this game.

It better be the best game I've ever played.

Exactly. Hopefully the shortages problem will be fixed by the time the game appears in the US and Europe. If not, then Nintendo really can go to hell if it stops me getting the game.

Woah, after all these years having faith and supporting Nintendo. This has to be the dumbest move they made in their history.

Seriously, Brawl is going to be a popular game, so Nintendo must be prepared with a good ammount of copies. Nintendo, get up your lazy asses and make more copies, or you will lose many gamers' trust into you.

Luckily for me, I'll get the game without pre-ordering. However, this is still a downfall for the company and the game itself. Bad move, Nintendo, bad move.
