Well, it's official. The PSP's firmware 3.9 has now been released, and it includes Skype! The downside to it is, it only works on the slim PSP, as the original did not have enough memory to run Skype.

Ready for Skype? Here it is! Get it by accessing Network Update on your PSP. Here are the official details:

-Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.
- Skype has been added as a feature under Network.* (Only for PSP-2000 series.)

That's impossible. The old PSP simply lacks RAM to run Skype. You can't use a memory stick as RAM in the PSP unless Sony were to completely rewrite the PSP's firmware to get it to work, which they just won't do.

Lacks RAM? Why can't they run Skype on 32MB of RAM? Rubbish. The actual problem is flash0 space. Skype files are 1.5 MB which the Fat PSP's flash0 cannot handle. Slim has 64 MB Internal mem space, unlike 32 in Fat, so Skype is put into Flash0.

I'm not getting a slim model. I like the original one that I have but the slim model does intrigue me. What will it do next?

The update is still good for the fat PSP, you get more support of PSN titles. So update it on the fat one anyway. The slim gets both.
