It's been officially announced at a Gamestop conference that the 80GB PS3 will be phased out to accommodate a new SKU which will come bundled the new Dualshock 3 controller. The exact features and the release date of the new console have yet to be announced. As Sony have yet to confirm this it should be taken with a grain of salt

According to our sources from a number of GameStop locations, the system will be similar to the 360 with 120 or more gigabytes of hard drive space, as well as a Dual Shock 3 controller. There was no official date on when this new system would reach store shelves. This information appeared to follow up with that of a recent Ars Technica piece, where a reporter claimed a 120GB system with a Dual Shock 3 controller would be replacing the 80GB PS3.

Why do they keep phasing consoles out? Meh. This will probably carry a hefty price tag, I'll do just fine with my 40gig.

I'd give it a year at most, haha. At least it comes with the DualShock 3, though I wonder if they'll head back towards the $600 price tag.

I hope this version has 100% BC like the 60. I mean the cost of the consoles has gone down to half, i can see them putting the emotion chip back in.

I wonder how soon this one will come out. Because once this one comes out, DL3 should be out by then.
