Many have wandered what Devil May Cry 4 will be like on the XBOX360, and how well it will sell. Well regardless of how good it is, it certainly isn't doing well as it's PS3 counterpart - atleast in Japan anyway. Whilst the PS3 version has sold 140,000 copies in Japan, the XBOX360 version only managed sell a megre 30,000 copies, meaning a 5:1 sell rate for the PS3:XBOX360.

How closely these ratios will match to their US/UK numbers is yet to be seen, but with more XBOX360's than PS3's things can go the other way.

Well its Japan. They're pretty much anti-Xbox/MS so it isn't really fair to compare the sales there. I'm interested to see how DMC4 will do here in North America.

You've got to remember that most fans of the game, have played the game on the PS2, playing it with an XBOX360 controller will be too different (and from what I've read, awkward) and so I feel that those that have both consoles will still get it for the PS3 as opposed to the XBOX360 as well as those that only have one console. It all come down to - are there enough people with just an XBOX360 that will buy the game, and does it out-weight the number that will buy it for the PS3?

        Bullshit.
Everyone I've spoken to about the controls on 360 loved them.
        As did I.

Sorry ljp, I've got to agree with Krunal and Subzero on this. Devil May Cry series has been Playstation for a long time, The Xbox has no chance against the PS3 in Japan. Microsoft is just tagging along for the (profitable) ride.

          I didn't say that.
Sony will spank MS in Japan. No doubt about it.
I was talking about the controls on the 360 (demo) and they were great.

Have you played the game on PS2? I've read many a reviews about how the controls were awkward for the XBOX360 version in comparison to the PS3, and that's not just my view.

Of course. I've played all 3 games on the PS2.

And I did have my doubts as to how well it would work with the 360 controller.
These were unfounded as the controls are *bleep*ing awesome.

Actually I believe Krunal Meant PS3 not PS2. Regardless, i heard the controls for the 360 sucked compared to the PS3 and that was from 1up when the did the interview about DMC4.

Well, I can guarantee the controls on the 360 demo are excellent.
As good, if not better, than the DMC1-3 on the PS2.

And I doubt there would be much difference between DMC 1-3 and 4 seeing as the PS2 and PS3 controllers only differ in small aspects.

I think DMC4 could've done better, but it was destroyed by Super Smash Bros. Brawl's release. Then again, Brawl destroyed every other game that released that week. Although, with that in mind, 140k PS3/30k 360 is still decent, but the 360 could've been better, given the install base there.

Devil May Cry has always been popular but not to the level of God of War or anything, plus since SSBB is hard to get ahold of due to shortages I don't think it affected it all that much. Despite it not being as popular as God of War, I think the Devil May Cry series is much better. I've been a fan since it's inception.

Whilst what your saying makes sense to a degree, you have to remember that those that can't get their hands on the game, are most likely saving up money for it, rather than spending it on another game. Chances are that at the moment only the real die-hard DMC fans have bought it along with those that just want to know what all the hype is about.

Someone who's old enough to play Devil May Cry has enough to buy both games if they really want them, and has been saving up their money long before their release. Especially Brawl which has been delayed a billion times.

          Krunal Feb 4, 08
That's not always the case. You assume that just because they're old enough to buy the game that they work. You also assume that parents don't get it for them. Hell my parents bought GTA: VC and GTA: SA for me since I was still young at that time, and I even got GTA3 when I was just 15 years old. I could buy that game, yet I didn't earn. So as I said, it's not always the case that they can afford both games

WOW THAT'S QUITE AMAZING. Oh wait no it isn't considering the Japanese are hell bent on assuming that Xbox is the devil and so don't buy them at all.

Really nothing to go by. 360s have been selling worse than a hippo-hooker in Japan.

HAHA. It's Japan dude. Why try to trick people by leaving that out of the title? If you just said 'DMC4 sales: PS3 beats 360 IN JAPAN' we wouldn't have to take this crap seriously and skip it.

jmac353, there's a difference. Japan wouldn't buy 360s if they could blow you during loading screens. They blindly hate it. 'America' buys BOTH the 360 and the PS3, so it's a better judge in this kind of situation. It's like exclusively asking hardcore redneck conservatives if they like Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton: of COURSE you're going to get biased results.

I'd assume that people are smart enough to know that the game has not been released yet in any other part of the world... you see the US release is tommorow and the EU release is this friday

My God this kid has a high horse doesn't he?

Also, why did Krunal get thumbs-down? His post made perfect sense.

      Storm Feb 5, 08
It's because someone just doesn't agree with him. I don't see why disagreeing would lead to thumbs down though. Fixed anyways.

The game series was home to the Sony consoles from the start, so I'd assume that those who wanted this game anticipated it on being PS3 only, or they just prefer the PS3-type games. I'd get it for the 360 but since that went in for repairs just last week, I'll get it for the PS3.

        .
And yet it always happens to me, funny isn't.

Still this isn't a surprise, its in Japan. Although they have said the PS3 version is clearer and feels better compared to 360. The Devs said this.

However lets see how the sales go tomorrow for the U.S i suspect if anything its going to be 2:1 for PS3. But thats my opinion and definitely not factual by any means.

Don't worry about thumbs down... if it reaches -5 I can restore it to zero

Heh, at least you didn't get thumbs down because you confirmed that Krunal was, in fact, a guy. I guess I ruined someone's dream...

But Jmac, your post was quite harsh.
Niceness goes a long way man.

I'm plenty nice if people actually use their heads and aren't so ignorant. To think that literally a whole culture of people "blindly hate" a console is utterly absurd. There's a reason behind why the 360 doesn't sell well in Japan, it's game library is focused much more heavily on North American gamers. Not a whole lot on the 360 that the majority of the Japanese like.

        Miss Razz Feb 5, 08
        I definitely agree, jmac353.
I get a laugh whenever people say that Japan doesn't want to support something that is American. So the Japanese people love American TV, American stars, American music, American movies, etc. ... yet they don't like Xbox because it's American? Yeah, whatever

I believe there was an article posted on Gamegrep a while ago where a large group of Japanese gamers were surveyed about the reasons they weren't interested in XBox, and being American had nothing to do with it. The lack of interest was, as mentioned above, mostly due to the XBox and it's games seemingly being aimed towards the American market only. The Japanese don't feel like it's a console they would enjoy to play, because they don't feel as though Microsoft Japan is trying hard enough to market it towards the Japanese gamers.
I'll try to dig the article up if I can find it.

Edit: Bah. Couldn't find the exact article after all. But this one gives a brief outline of the problem, and the types of XBox games that Japan are interested in.

p.s. Oh yay, I got thumbed down for this. God forbid anyone doesn't agree with the "Japanese are racist against Xbox" posts. *bleep*heads.

That explains why Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, DMC4, and Enchanted Arms sold so well.

There's a general anti-Xbox attitude in Japan. Is that SO ignorant to say?
        • 1
          Krunal Feb 5, 08
Actually if you think that, then it's ignorance. If Final Fantasy series were to go exclusive to the XBOX, what console do you think everyone would buy just to play FF? Yes Sony and Nintendo are Japanese consoles, but we over the shores buy them, and people do still buy XBOX360's. It's the fact that they don't have games that appeal to them that makes them buy less. Hell it's the one thing keeping me from buying an XBOX360.

For me, if I wanted DMC4 I have a PS3, I can get it for that, same with Eternal Sonata. Blue Dragon got crap reviews, and not too sure about Lost Odyssey, but I doubt people will buy a console for a handful of games when they can just get another console and a whole lot more games.

A whole lot more games, man? Is Folklore that great? This is a legitimate question. I can't think of any more RPGs on the PS3 that would satisfy Japan. I check IGN all the time for games to add to the list when I get a PS3, but I've never found another RPG (not surprised if they don't add Japan-only games or something). I'd really like to be enlightened.

I mean, reading Seeker X's post, which I 100% agree with, I'm obviously not the only one.

If you've seen how addicted I got to the game you'd understand... even the NeoStaff do, hell I created 3 vFAQ's for them in a matter of days. Don't forget that whilst FFXIII hasn't released yet, it is destined for PS3, and that wont change.

Another RPG (multi-platform actually) which has interested many is Oblivion. I've yet to find it to play it, unfortunately it's sold out in most places

I can't think of another reason why the 360 is failing in Japan. I mean, doesn't the 360 have the most JRPG's in their library??? Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, etc. And Halo 3 was also a best selling game out there as well, so much for not liking "North American" games.

Not a surprise. The Japanese hate the 360.

I can't wait to see what the sales will be like here in the US.
