After the contreversy over GameSpot and the alleged firing of Jeff Gerstmann due to giving a review a low rating, many others have left GameSpot, one of which blamed CNet, the company that runs GameSpot for the reason as to any of this has happened.

Well today, we see the depature of yet another GameSpot veteran reviewer, namely Ryan Davis who seems to have been close to Gerstmann.

It seems that GameSpot is slowly losing it's oldest staff, over the unfair dismissal of a reviewer because they gave the game an "honest" low grade. Could things be getting any worse for GameSpot?

It's been almost 8 years since I started working at GameSpot, and Jeff was there for nearly all of my fondest and most memorable experiences on the job. ... Simply put, I would not be in the video game business at all were it not for Jeff Gerstmann, and I am loathe to imagine what I might be doing with my life right now without the focus I've earned from having this ridiculous job. ... But now, Jeff's gone, and I'm not afraid to say that it absolutely breaks my heart. I felt the departure of Rich Gallup from the site earlier this year in my bones, but this goes deeper. Jeff was a rare constant, and this marks the end of an era for both GameSpot and myself, a fact that doesn't seem to be getting any less upsetting for me.

I think he called it as it really was. He gave the game a 6 out of 10. How is that unfair? A 6 is above par and Kane and Lynch is a not-so-great game. I think that's fair if you ask me. When it comes down to it, though, the score is based on their own opinion. It was even mentioned by numerous GameSpot staff that a review will go through an entire team and "approved" before it gets published. So, everyone else must have thought a 6/10 was fair. That is, untill Eidos complained and the higherups got all sore because money > truth.

Jeff's gone, Alex Navarro quit, Frank Provo quit, and now Ryan Davis has quit. CNet is burning GameSpot to the ground. I highly doubt their new Editor in Cheif, Ricardo Torres, can gain back the trust of anyone. The fact still remains that the top dogs of CNet are still there and CNet still owns GameSpot.

Have you actually heard what happened (from the eyes of the media and gaming population)? In short Eidos paid GameSpot/CNet money to advertise. They did. GameSpot then released a review on the game, saying how shit it was, Eidos didn't like it, and pulled their advertising campaign, and got him fired. Whether this is all true or not still remains to be seen, though I doubt we'll ever find out the TRUE story, but with these departures it seems to be the case that he was UNFAIRLY dismissed, even though he was well compensated for leaving.

At this point, I really don't care what Gamespot has to say, or CNet for that matter, both over this (if they do say anything), the incident with Jeff, or just in general. With the mass exodus of the vets, I can only imagine that something more did happen with the incident with Jeff just like the rumours claimed. That or Gamespot has just become a crap place to work due to one thing or another. Or maybe neither are right and the vets have just decided to do something else with their lives all at once...great coincidence.

In any case, I hope these people who are leaving find a nice comfy job that they enjoy.

HAHA yes baby, Gamespot is going down in flames, its about time. Their biased reviews will die, next IGN staff

I agree with the firing to be honest, i didn't even think the game deserved the 6/10 imo, i found the demo quite fun, and played the game and i thought it should have gotten 7/10.

But hey if your getting money to advertise a game, don't make a garbage review to bash the game. CNet is a business and they should be treating that situation as one. And they did a good job imo.

Although like krunal said we have yet to know the true story since GS has made 5 different ones over the past month about it.
