Despite doing a bit of "research" on the matter (i.e. Asking her kids), Muir believes that there is a serious epidemic taking over the world: Men are choosing to to live as children and play games, instead of being responsible adults. She wants them to grow up! Yes, that's right, according to Mrs Muir, men who play video games can't possibly be responsible adults with devoted wives and loving children. And god forbid a woman plays video games too, that's unquestionable!
Ironic that the article is called "the dark ages". That seems to be the era Mrs Muir is living in.
It's nice to know that, for every idiot who mindlessly bashes a video game, there is
someone there to defend them.

At my college evening class last week, two intelligent, thirtysomething suited guys – solicitors or managers to judge from their e-mail addresses – were talking about their new Xbox 360s and what transcendent joy was to be had from them. I eavesdropped more attentively. Apparently, in Gears of War, the smallest details of the largest battles were crystal clear, in widescreen! Surely they were discussing their children’s computer games? Xboxes are toys, after all.
Further chat revealed the professional gentlemen were childless. The Xboxes were toys for very big boys indeed. Worried, I went unto Google and retrieved this trend for you: Nielsen Media Research surveyed American men aged 18 to 34 and found 48 per cent of them had used a games console recently, and on average, it was for 2 hours 43 minutes per day. Yes, half of not-so-young men spend nearly three hours a day gaming.
It’s worse than grown men building Hornby 00-gauge train sets in their attics, or constructing battles with painted toy soldiers. Only a few men did that, in secret, but now everyone is celebrating their inner geek.
But the games addiction is only a symptom of the extended childhood of the 21st-century hominid. Marriage, families and children are being delayed for as long as possible, replaced by conspiratorial flatmates and microwaved gastropub ready meals. Italian men stay at home with their mother; the British and Americans want to lead a life like an endless episode of Friends.

She is being unreasonable, making assumptions based on what would equate to no research (statistics of who plays games?), and making said assumptions based on her OPINIONS on what gaming is (a childish thing)....Forgive me, but I don't see much anything 'childish' about Gears of War >_>
There are two types of people like this...Those like Jack Thompson, who assume games are murder simulators brainwashing people into being violent, emotionless killing machines. And there are people who are like this, who think it is a childish past time...
Again, last I checked, games like Gears of War (and other M rated games) are anything but childish...it isn't even LEGAL to sell said games to children >_>
It is no different than movies (albeit, interactive ones)....Some games are suited for children, some are meant for teens, and some for adults...and there are various genres so everyone can find something they'd like...
In a way, it is no different than if she subbed in 'movie watching' for 'gaming' >_>

This is a narrow-minded, sexist, idiotic and completely unfounded opinion that I feel needs a serious owning. Gaming community, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO DO WHAT YOU DID TO COOPER! GO! Dreams aside, Kate does seriously need a wake up call, as do quite a few other people apparently. Hell I want to know just how the hell people like this ever get attention by anyone. It's just bullshit. Anyway all I know is this kind of crap really has to stop. It truly is getting out of hand, especially with what apparently seems to have been a bombardment of crap lately.

im 22, i have a pretty serious illness that stops me from getting a job, going to uni or anything, and i play games on my PC every single day. gaming has helped me get through the hard times and allowed me to do something fun and even vaguely constructive. if idiots like this had their way i would most likely have commited suicide a long time ago.
these pathetic inbreds need to do proper research and not just decide with no evidence that videogaming is responsible for all the evils in the world.
whats to blame for for wars? gaming. what makes serial killers kill? gaming. whats responsible for a mother suffocating her newborn baby? gaming.

At this point you might be cooling down, realizing "Oh... they're all idiots stuck inside their ivory tower bubbles...", which you should have realized sooner. Their grip on society is loose at best and they seem to feel that men are some large mystery (we aren't). Becoming annoyed at this article means that you're giving her FAR too much credit.
Take games like Silent Hill for example and all the effort that goes into them, surely it's not aimed at just 10yr olds. Plus the fact that most good games nowadays are 15 and up. Old guys looking at pictures of young kids is what you want to be worrying about, y'know lol
