In the UK, if a foreigner commits a crime, they are held in the Colebrook Immigration Removal Centre in Berkshire until they're deported. There, it seems that detainees are given Plasma TVs and Nintendo Wiis!
So, if you can't get a Wii, go to UK and commit a crime!

Foreign criminals are being given Nintendo Wiis and a plasma television to while away the time before their deportation, it has been claimed.
They can also buy goods at a store inside the facility and have them delivered to their cells by staff. A source at the centre claimed: "There are plasma TVs in some cells and 48in ones in the communal areas.

"Some detainees have Nintendo Wiis. If the consoles go wrong staff are sent to the nearest Argos to pick up a replacement

It disgusts me that everyday hard-working people have to earn their own money to pay for a console and/or a plasma screen TV (and some might never be able to afford such luxuries), while criminals get them handed to them for nothing.
I'm sensing a lack of justice here.

Well then, let's go on a murder spree! Wait... I don't have money for a trip to UK.

I agree (with Gothix Girl). Entertainment is necessary to prevent inmates from going insane, but to be given a console to use during their time in the prison is far to kind. Prison is supposed to be time to reflect on what bad decisions you've made in your life and how to prevent them, not playing Red Steel, Metroid Prime or Brawl.

I'm hoping this only applies for low security prisons and nothing above that.

If the inmates want entertainment, give them a ball to play with. Heck, if young school kids can think up plenty of games to play with a simple ball, then I'm sure inmates can find their own entertainment in that too.

I don't like the idea of my tax-paying money going to luxuries for criminals that many good, honest, law-abiding people can't even afford for themselves.

Well since they are so generous in rewarding those people who do the wrong thing by letting them play games on big plasma TV's, maybe since I do the right thing they'd be kind enough to give me a few games, a PS3 and a Wii, a gigantic TV, oh and say...$1,000,000 in cash? Seriously this is pathetic and exceptionally lame. Tax payer's dollars going to this? Sheesh, sure give them a crappy tv to watch but a console and a plasma TV? That's pushing it.

They're immigrants, so no need to be politically correct here.

Now what part of Detention/"Rehabilitation" centers do people not get? It's supposed to teach you not to do this shit again, what just happened here?

So are they letting them play all of the banned copies of Manhunt 2?

That wouldn't be so wise, would it? Letting criminals play what Jack Thompson called a "Murder Simulator" would be totally crazy, wouldn't it?

Yeah, about as crazy as letting them play a Wii in the first place. That was the point. ~.^

"The detainees are being held at Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre in Berkshire after serving time for offences including rape and murder."

The prison system here in the UK is seriously flawed.

Pretty much, yeah. You rape a woman, you get to play Wii on a plasma screen. You kill a man (or woman), you get to play Wii on a plasma screen!!!!

You work hard, you buy a plasma screen, you work hard, you buy a Wii, you get murdered, and the murderer gets to play your wii on your plasma T.V. in prison!

        I'm sooo committing a felony.

So, it's kind of like a juvenile-facility-style treatment, huh..?

It kind of disgusts me that only the criminals who are foreign get treated like kids. Talk about racism.
