After Microsoft decided to drop 360 Arcade price in Japan to get hold of unimpressed gamers, a gaming blog based in Holland is claiming that European Xbox 360 Arcade units will soon be receiving a retail price cut so that it would even be cheaper than a Nintendo Wii.

According to games.blogo.nl, a reliable source closely associated with Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox 360 Arcade (which recently replaced the base Core unit) will be reduced to €199 Euros, which, while a drop of €50 Euros, would also position the Arcade unit at a lower price than the hugely popular Nintendo Wii.

The (unnamed) source offers that Microsoft’s sudden move to hack a chunk from the price of the Arcade unit comes on the back of Sony (and also EA) outlining that the PlayStation 3 will outperform the Xbox 360 in sales during 2008.

I really can't see this happening. When it does, i'll accept it, but until then, it's not true.

It's the XBOX 360 Arcade, you know. Not the fully fledged XBOX 360. Just the Hard Drive less thingy. It might actually happen. Who knows?

It has no hard drive, it has barely nothing it is meant for arcade games on the whole its worse than the core Xbox 360 and no one liked that either.

Thats my point, its not going to sell if its thats much. I wouldn't get a core a pro would be better imo.

If this is true I still won't be buying it since it's the arcade. Now If it came with a hard drive I'd run to a store at once.

The arcade sucks, who cares how low it gets, no one will buy it.

If you look at the specs its a utter failure and you can't even benefit from games like Burnout and such. The arcade is a joke and it should have been destroyed before the Core in my opinion.

Like I said before, it's for people with less money. MS can't give the good stuff for cheap, can they? Seriously, I'd get a 360 Arcade if it goes below the Wii in price.

If it's less than the Wii, it'd be less than $200, so I can't see them selling at a profit at such a low price.

The Wii is already selling at a profit. They could just drop the price if Microsoft started imposing on its market.

That's true. I don't imagine Nintendo would drop their price right now, since there is no need to. However, if Microsoft's future price-drops threaten Wii sales, I'm sure they would drop their price to something more competitive. They can easily afford it.

If Microsoft does drop their price, it's a win-win for consumers, but I'm not sure if it will benefit either manufacturer.

Why is everyone so hyped up about the hard drive? I don't get it. Why don't you people realise that there are people who can't afford a 360 core even? They'd be happy with the arcade!!!

Because once you start using, you'll realise that an HDD is a very important part of gaming, for things like patches and DLC.
