Metal Gear Solid just got more essential with the Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection. A combination of all Metal Gear Solid games thus far (from 1 to 3) and that too for your PS2 so you can experience the fun if you haven't had the chance to already, or if you want a quick rewind.

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today confirmed speculation that Metal Gear Solid ®: the Essential Collection is currently planned for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Now Metal Gear Solid fans have the final chance to fully immerse themselves in the Metal Gear Solid universe before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Sweet. They did the same thing with the Devil May Cry series, releasing the three games (DMC3 being special edition) for only $30.

Except this package is actually worth it.

I wish they would put Metal Gear Solid on PSN. I really want it on my PSP.

You know you can play PSX games on your PSP right? (Though you do need a 60GB/80GB PS3, which I assume you have...)

He knows that but you can't have any PSX game on the PSP if they don't have it up for download.

No, you can, you can buy the game, put it into your PS3 and run it off your PSP without the downloaded version.

Ok. You (I mean iLLmatic) were the guy who bashed homebrew at General PSP, weren't you? If you had a custom firmware, you could get the Metal Gear Solid discs, rip them to hard disk of PC and then transferred to PSP.

No I never bashed homebrew. It annoyed me to hear people say the PSP is worthless without homebrew and I said that isn't even the purpose of the PSP.

But anyway, as Existenz eluded to, the whole remote play PS1 gameplay is somewhat worthless in my opinion. You would have to leave that one disc in the PS3 to play that one game from where ever you were. On top of that, the lag is not very kind. I also don't still own all of my games, but would gladly buy some back if they would just put them up for download. I could also carry as many as I could fit on my memory stick and play it directly on my PSP if they did so.

Well, homebrew is pretty much keeps my PSP alive though. I don't have more than 10 games, so I play all my PSone classics on it.

I already own all 3 games, too bad there's no real incentive to get this if you already own them. No cool packaging or anything.

I heard about this a few weeks ago, good deal considering a used copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is $25 alone.

I wish they would just port MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3 into PS3 engine and run it natively at 1080p/720p. Leave the textures and everything the way they are, maybe up character polygon count a bit or something.

At least then there would be no jaggies and such at native 1080p and they could force max AA and max AF.

Amazing deal, although I do have all of them already (well, I lost the original MGS, but I have Twin Snakes). I still haven't been able to play MGS3 because my PS2 stopped working >_>...

I have really been tempted to play the games lately, but my PS2's lens is messed up so I can't. Twin Snakes is great and all, but I have already played the game many times and unlocked everything quite a few times.

Very, very nice and I will definitely be picking this up. I have 3 and regrettably sold 2 and 1 so this is sort of a comeback for me. Does anyone know if there will be any noticeable changes to MGS 1, which happens to my my favorite of the series thus far?

Get the twin snakes for gamecube. It would work on the wii as long as you have a gamecube controller to plug into it.

Sounds pretty cool, although I own all of them already.

But, like iLLmatic, I wish it would come out on PSN. I don't want to risk screwing my PSP/going through loads of bother just to play it on my PSP.
