A schoolboy who had a PSP in his pocket seems to have been burned by the PSP that overheated. He is still being treated for burns. Fire investigators are trying to find out how it happened, and they seem to think it's due to not using a genuine battery.
Phew. I'm glad I have a genuine battery for my PSP.

Farmington Hills firefighters were called to the school at about 8:30 a.m. The student, who is in the seventh grade, was treated at the school for burns to his leg and then transported to a hospital for further treatment.

Diane Bauman, spokeswoman for the school district, said the boy was in band when the device overheated. Students are permitted to bring portable game systems to school, she said, but are not permitted to play them during school hours.

Bauman declined to release the boy’s name but said it does not appear that his injuries are severe. No one else was injured, she said. The boy did not return to school.

Wow, that is just freaky. But unfortunately I gotta say it's his own fault. Sony doesn't put up warnings like everyone else for the fun of it. They are WARNINGS and the kid didn't follow them. Too bad the PSP got wasted. Still, I hope his burns aren't too bad and he'll be fine.

The downside to being cheap, you get burned. So it's up to the consumer, do you prefer your wallet or your pockets to burn...

Still sorry for the kid, though. Didn't something like this happen to a man listening to his iPod while jogging?

Yeah. It's not worth the risk. And also, a PSP battery isn't that expensive, is it???? I still stick to my original battery since 2006. (Surprisingly in good condition still)

I'd honestly be more pissed about my PSP getting *bleep*ed up rather than my second degree burns. I cherish my PSP.

How can you set your PSP to Max speed, the only game that is using that is Chains of Olympus and its not out yet. And i seriously doubt he knows how to modd his PSP.

Regardless that sucks, hope he will be fine.

        Custom firmware dood >_>

Basically, using custom firmware you can 'unlock' the higher speed (improves loading times a bit, I think)....

But not everyone knows how to have custom firmware. If anything he may have gotten his PSP from someone who had custom firmware.

Besides my PSP isn't Custom and is the same battery as standard and it gets hot.

This is crazy. I use my PSP (Custom firmware) at 333 MHZ everytime (unless I'm using WiFi in which case I lower to 300), and doesn't get hot at all.

Wow. Just, wow. I wish my PSP could burst into flames. That would be cool.

But in all seriousness, that sucks.

I can imagine the other student's reactions. 0_0

Really but it's his own fault, although hope nothing is too bad.
