Right now it's one of those internet rumors attributed to a "reliable source," but it seems reasonable to us: Word is, a movie based on Bioshock is in the works.

Execs at a major studio have reportedly been meeting with 2k and talking about the feasibility of big screen Big Daddies.

According to joystiq.com, "The studio hopes to bring the fallen aquatic utopia of Rapture to celluloid life through extensive use of green screen technology, an approach not dissimilar to Legendary Pictures' interpretation of 300. If the computer generated approach is deemed feasible and fitting, the focus can then shift to capturing BioShock's secondary (and uninhabited) characters."

The site adds, "The studio hopes to bring the fallen aquatic utopia of Rapture to celluloid life through extensive use of green screen technology, an approach not dissimilar to Legendary Pictures' interpretation of 300. If the computer generated approach is deemed feasible and fitting, the focus can then shift to capturing BioShock's secondary (and uninhabited) characters."

BioShock is a unique game that mixes a spine-chilling setting illustrated with art deco art and architecture, sci-fi themes of bio-genetic mutation and self-modification, a deep storyline with open-choice freedom to interact with the world, and first-person action that requires you to think every time you pull the trigger.

I for one really hope they don't screw this one up like they did with almost all the other games turned movies.

Bioshock movie, right? I want people to remember the article that said that video games would fail in Hollywood after this one. Because it's most likely that Bioshock's original story will dominate the shit out of the movie's storyline.

It would be a movie based on a video game. Automatic failure.

I'm still waiting to borrow this game from my friend... but based on what I played in the demo and some of the videos I've seen, it'd be interesting to see what a Bioshock movie would be like.

I do believe this could be a video game movie that doesn't suck. However I just hope they don't have a shitty storyline. As long as it's interesting (and preferably not ripped straight from the game), it'll probably go over very well.

Problem with conversion of (good) games to movies, is games are usually at least a few times longer than the average movie...Fitting 10+ hours of gameplay into a 2 (or less) hours of film, is a bit hard to do (well)....

I might watch the movie, but unless it is AWESOME, I doubt I'd pay to see it >_>

Yeah but the movie wouldn't show all the puzzles, hallways, and boss battles. It would probably just be the progression of the story along with a few big daddies, some fights with random enemies, while just focusing on the main plotline and twists.

If you cut through all the hallway walking, puzzle solving, repetitive fighting, and searching levels for EVERYTHING, you could easily cut down to under 2 hours. The telling of the story didn't take 10 hours, most of the time you are playing you are doing one of the above things.

I would love to see this movie.

this could be interesting. it could go one of two ways, and i hope it goes the way where they make it faithful to the game and even just partly as brilliant as it.

Though this has potential, I just can't see a game being turned into a successful movie.

    Final Blade Feb 10, 08
Well I hope not, it may ruin the good things about the game.

    Oh god. Not Bioshock too.

Who knows, maybe it won't turn out bad like Bloodrayne. =/

If it's fully CGI, it'll stand a chance. Live-Action? Hell no...

yeah, youve got a great point there. CG game movies arent fully movie but arent a game, theyre somewhere inbetween in that they could easily be used as a cutscene. FF:AC was awesome and Resi: Degeneration looks to be coming along great. rapture, the splicers and the big daddies would be brilliantly realised in CG.

Agreed. CGI like the resident evil japanese movies. Or FFVII. Instant win.

I think it would look good even if it is done in life action.

With a good makeup artist and wardrobe, and some decent, creepy, acting from the splicers, it would turn out as an instant cult classic.
