Broken Microsoft DRM doesn't let 360 owner play Xbox Live content

Guticb | February 12, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
Basically, this guy (Kevin) had a hardware issue with his 360. He eventually got it replaced by Microsoft. What's the catch?

He can't play any of his Xbox Live content.

What's Microsoft's response?

They'll HOPEFULLY RESOLVE IT IN 2008.
- November 2007: Kevin's XBOX 360 is replaced, causing his content to lose full functionality. He calls Microsoft.
- Microsoft keeps Kevin on the phone for an hour trying different methods of restoring functionality to his content. Nothing works. They say they will call him back in two weeks.
- They do not call him back, so he calls them. Microsoft makes him repeat the steps he tried the first time he called. They tell him they will call him back in two weeks.
- This cycle repeats twice more before Kevin gets a call from Frank at XBOX escalations. It's now the second week of January.
- Kevin periodically speaks to Frank. Frank has no answers for him.
- February 7, 2008: Frank tells Kevin that there's nothing more he can do and, when Kevin asks when he can expect a resolution, Frank says "hopefully sometime in 2008."

That sucks big time. I hope everything gets resolved, i would hate it if my content would just not be accessible.

I don't understand why he can't gain access to his content. I've taken my hard drive to friends' consoles and played previously purchased Arcade games several times before. I've even recovered my gamer profile remotely through Xbox Live to another console and redownloaded purchased content! I was under the impression you can do that as many times as you want, as long as your Gamertag is only activated on a single console (I couldn't sign into Live on my home device until I re-recovered my gamer profile).

Agreed, and why don't they just give him another XBOX360 if the XBOX is the cause of the problems? New XBOX360 means that he can recover his gamer profile, and redownload it, can he not?

You can do it aslong as your profile is signed into xbl(on other xbox's), otherwise no other account is going to be able to use it under other 360's.
