If you're an Aussie and you've been keeping up with the news for Dark Sector, you're not going to like this bit of news. The OFLC has chosen not to give the game a classification because it is a "violent and sometimes gruesome game with a sinister storyline and ominous outcome," which effectively prohibits the game from being sold in Australia. D3Publisher is yet to comment, but it's likely that the game will be edited and resubmitted to the OFLC in an attempt to obtain an MA15+ rating. Until then, however, it's safe to say that the game isn't going to see the light of day Down Under.

In its report, the Board describe Dark Sector as a "violent and sometimes gruesome game with a sinister storyline and ominous outcome. The violence and aggression inflicted upon the protagonist is of a high level, naturalistic and not stylised at all."

While the Board notes that the violence in the game takes place in the context of Hayden's mission to "defeat a scientist that has infected people with a mutant virus," the report spends several paragraphs detailing the most excessive examples of that violence, leading to the decision that its impact "exceeds strong and as such cannot be accomplished in a MA15+ classification."

Im sorry im not Australian and i take offense with that statement Jaw Knee, i also take offense to the word Aussie, shouldn't that be banned, its just as bad imo as calling a Japanese person a Jap.

Anyway that sucks that this game isn't coming out, its like in the UK where Manhunt 2 wasn't, such a shame.

While that may be your personal opinion about the term Aussie, I personally know many people from Australia who don't mind being called Aussies. It's not quite as offensive to them as you seem to think.

It's not really offensive to any degree really.

Exactly. "Aussie" isn't a derogatory term at all. It never has been considered a derogatory term, and if an Australian does take offence to it then they need a good kick in the pants. lol
Most Australians take pride in being an "Aussie". It's what we (and other countries) call us.

"Jap", however, is a derogatory term.

Why is Jap a derogatory term?

Because "jap" originated during WWII as a way to show disrespect towards the Japanese. It was a term made by non-Japanese specifically for the purpose of insulting and degrading a Japanese person.
Many Japanese (and Japanese-Americans) still regard it as a racial slur, because of it's war-time connotations.

It's like calling a British person a Brit, or an Indian person... well Indian i.e. there's nothing wrong with it.

Doesn't mean no Australian may find it offense. But still i don't like the term it just doesn't sound right. It would be like me calling a country person hillbilly. Thats also offensive.

*EDIT* finally that horrid post is gone.

Oh crap, seriously why has this happened? From what I've seen of Dark Sector it isn't really all that violent compared to other games on the market. We need that damn R rating!

PS-what did that post which was deleted say?

I don't find the term Aussie offensive at all. It's short for Australian why would I find that offensive? We even use it in some of our media eg "Aussie Aussiue Aussie Oi Oi Oi"

Oh and congrats Jaw Knee you just earned a place on my Wall of Shame

To be honest, I still don't get why some states are opposed to an R rating available for games. It needs to change. Something tells me John Howard is to blame... And now he's not a problem!

Just another chapter in Australian rating idiocy, I suppose.

'Aussie' may be offensive to some citizens who have spent a significant amount of time in another country and consider it home, but even some of those won't care. We're laid back, here. Just part of being silently awesome.

It may be offensive if you call an Italian, Croatian etc who lives in Australia an Aussie, but most Australians prefer to be called Aussie.

We get screwed over as far Mature rated games go, I think the government still believe video games are something for children. Even after all these years we still haven't got a R rating for games when even New Zealand has one. Quite frankly it sucks

I don't care that I can't play this game, but it's that principle of me not being allowed to chose what games I play that annoys me.
