Video game rentals have due dates for a reason. Pennsylvania resident Morris W. Mumma Jr. found that out the hard way by coming to the brink of a jury trial over not paying a $59 late fee. The manager of the store he rented the games from called him about it, at which point he said he was busy and had forgotten about them. He still didn't return the items, so the manager decided he was going to charge his credit card $70 to cover the cost of replacing the items, but that got returned by the bank. Frustrated, he got the police involved.

So those of you that like to rent games, get them in on time!

It sounds like something out of a sitcom, but a criminal charge over a $59 video store late fee came to the brink of a jury trial Wednesday before a Dauphin County judge pulled the plug on the prosecution.

After hearing arguments over the theft of leased property charge against Morris W. Mumma Jr., President Judge Richard A. Lewis declined to seat a jury -- and told prosecutors to withdraw the charge or he would dismiss it once the fee was paid.

What people sue over nowadays is kind of extreme. Still, I can understand the lawsuit, but I would wait longer and get more money with late charges. I mean, court costs alone amount to over $50 I believe. Idiots. Kind of reminds me of Sienfeld.

This is why people need to get GameFly! Seriously, it's so much better than renting from video stores.
