The title says it all. In about a year and a half, the PSN has hit 3 million users in North America, with about 8 million items purchased from the North American Playstation Store. Additionally, about 52 million files have been served up on the Playstation Store, from wallpapers and themes, to demos and videos.
This number is sure to grow when Playstation Home is released!
Note - These numbers probably include the PC's Playstation Store for PSPs.
According to Sony, PlayStation Network downloads are about to smash through the eight million mark. It's also being reported that in North America there almost three million registered PlayStation Network accounts.
Jack Tretton, chief of Sony US, said, "Coming off a great holiday sales season we see strong momentum behind PS3 in 2008, and feel confident about the year ahead... we have Blu-ray emerging as the de facto high def standard, the developer community is hitting their stride, consumers are recognising the tremendous value and innovative services such as PlayStation Home are all in the works, so this is definitely shaping up to be a breakthrough year for us."
Tretton also revealed there have been more than 52 million downloads of stuff from the Store since it began.

But not bad for a year and a half
I have to say, I've downloaded my fair share of freebies from the store
I'm sure the amount of users will double soon after Home's release and other content, perhaps with PlayTV as well.
Anyway it is impressive, but its not going to beat Live anytime soon.
