iSuppli's has predicted that this year Sony will sell about 10 million units, Nintendo Wii still leading with 12.2 and 360 with 7.5 units sold.

For their PS3 sales iSuppli backed their number by saying that games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus, will likely cause the spike in sales.

And lets not forget about Little Big Planet which could definitely help boost some more sales.

However they do state that PS3 may not win over the casual crowd from Nintendo's Wii.

iSuppli's also predicted that the PS3 will double its install base, which is the strongest growth of any video game console, while lowering the gap between its rivals.

This year does show some great titles and promise for Sony's PS3.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) PlayStation 3 will double its installed base this year, posting the strongest growth of any video game console and narrowing the gap with rivals, research firm iSuppli said on Thursday.

Worldwide sales of the PS3 are expected to be 10 million units this year, compared with 12.2 million units for Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) Wii and 7.5 million units for Microsoft Corp's(MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Xbox 360, iSuppli said.

As widely expected given its strong sales, lower price and games that appeal to a broader audience, the Wii is in line to become the industry leader with a total global installed base of 30.2 million units.

Seems pretty solid, I think the 360 might just sell a tad more and the Wii a tad less

You know i really don't think its going to play out like their prediction, at least not number wise.
    This would be my prediction:
    Wii: 10.5 million sales
    PS3: 8.9 million sales
    360: 8.2 million sales.

In terms of over all sales in 08. Since 360 has yet to really show everyone their full line-up. Then again who knows, im just sorta skeptical.

I personally think Sony will be severely unlucky to only sell 10 million units this year, its a year thats already seen the death of HD-DVD leaving the PS3 as a cheap and great Blu-Ray player, its a system that has the strongest line up of upcoming exclusives i mean to many gamers accross the world MGS4 and GT5 are the holy grail of gaming and those are only like 5% of the quality on show this year for the system, and with the new 45nm processor expected very soon the console is going to be even cheaper in 2008.

The other systems, Nintendo could have a very strong year again but they need to stop with the shovelware, i mean at this rate they are in serious risk of losing customers just by having an over abundance of shit, also they need to lock down the manufacture of systems since thats also hitting them hard, unless its all a plan, keep demand deliberately high so when it does come in stock people need to have it, i dunno i think it will be strong for Wii again, maybe not as strong as last year but strong never the less.

Microsoft i want them to do well but their sales have been declining slowly ever since launch, last year they sold 7 million units and they had Bioshock, Mass Effect and Halo 3 to name a few, they should have sold more. I just feel they are spending too much time a conferences pushing numbers that in the grand scheme of things mean nothing, i see a further decline in sales unless Microsoft change their ways, only time will tell and gamers are about as fickle as a child deciding what candy they want, they could go with anything.

I knew i would get thumbed down, some Xbox 360 and Wii gamers are far to insecure these days.

I think it's rather sad to be "insecure" over a console in the first place!

First EA's predictions and now these both backing the Playstation 3, things are starting to really look good for Sony as long as these predictions are acurate though I dont see why they would not be.. It will yet again be a close year ^-^

I don't believe in predictions. No one really knows how 2008 will turn out like.

Why did i get thumbed down, may predictions seems more accurate. Think about it. Sure PS3 has a great line-up in 08 i know that, but you cannot deny that MS hasn't given us all the games for them in 08, neither has Nintendo. My numberes are actually very similar to what Silver Mirror said(which didn't get thumbed down), only difference i lowered the PS3 sales. you can't say my post was biased it was actually non biased, since i like the PS3 alot as people know and yet i made both PS3 and 360 sales very close almost tied, while Wii being ahead as usual. Seriously.

Seriously stop abusing the damn feature.

I think its more that you came accross as a PS3 fanboy trying not to sound like one, i dunno why people get thumbed down for clearly stating an opinion but thats the world these days.

How so? By lowering the prediction of the PS3 sales and raising the 360 sales. Sounds like a non fanboy to me. Like i said im not the same person i was before, sure i still like the PS3 but i am at one point getting a 360 so this does have an effect for me too. Ninja Gaiden 2 is where its at

I could care less about sales right now, and at times i even backed up a 360 console so how am i being a PS3 fanboy. I think people need to grow up to be honest.

Your past... Its all well and good seeing both sides of the spectrum now, but me included at one point was very biased in favour of the PS3, i just think right now people just see it as slightly hypocritical, especially when it is clearly the PS3's year. I mean you were backing the PS3 when it was down in the shit and now you back the 360 more now than before, its just the way you put it when the PS3 is about to dominate, its no wonder people are a bit dubious and thumbing some posts down.

No im not backing up the 360 cause of that, we all know predictions from analysts are nothing to go by. How many predictions have they said that actual came true, and in a ratio and percentage. My whole point is MS and Nintendo are keeping games on the DL, and to ignore something like that is idiotic. Don't get me wrong its not like im only backing up the 360 here, you know me Nikki you know i love the PS3 for what it is, still today. But im also not going to ignore the success of the Wii and the games that the 360 has and games under wraps for 08. In essence im supporting all 3 consoles here but im also being realistic, the numbers aren't going to be the same here, we may indeed see some major surprises, hell those big games could turn out to be bombshells for the PS3 for all we know. Again my point is its not written in stone and lets wait and see. Remember the article i posted in June stated there is no clear winner in the console war and it may take 2 years to see who could possible win. And remember the pros and Cons of all 3 systems, yeah people forget that was mine. It wasn't like i hated all 3 consoles, i was just using what was said from the articles in comparisons to the PS3 problem and how people were riding it off as a failure.

I was never a pro sony fanboy or biased to begin with.

With the PS3, the SKU price needs to be worth the price, dictated partially be console features and primarily by game library. They're cutting price, but also console features, but their library is going up. It's tricky to gauge.

HD-DVD dying has just made the PS3 worth the money from any movie lovers standpoint, there are millions and millions out there that were waiting for a format to come through to buy a player... Then there is the games this year, all massive Playstation brands that everyone loves, cheaper hardware and even with cut features the 40Gb in Europe has sold almost as much as the 60Gb did in about 2 months on the market, no one cares about half the features they cut, backwards compatibility is the only one, but rationally thinking not many people use it anyway once PS3 games get going.

Something tells me thats more deliberate on Nintendo's part, i have a suspicion that Nintendo are slightly worried that if they let all those that want to buy it, buy it then their sales will drop dead, if they keep it off the shelves for 3 months at a time then by 2011 they can say it sold so well and continued to do so from day one till the end, when the fact is it did sell well but had they kept it on the shelves all year like the other 2 consoles interest would have fizzled out by now.
