Could a sequel to the popular online service by Microsoft be in the works? Well Games Industry certainly think so, and even more due to a job posting which alludes to a "next release" which will aim at "mainstream audiences".

Take a look below and at the source for the full job ad given by Microsoft. It could however simply be a misunderstanding on GI's part, and bad wording on Microsoft's part, or maybe they're simply looking to improve the service on Microsoft Live, taking into consideration the complaints they received during Christmas.

"Want to be involved in the next release of Xbox? Join the server-backed games team, part of the Xbox Live team that's responsible for creating a completely new way for mainstream audiences to enjoy the Xbox and Live," says the ad.

XBL2? That's interesting. I'd rather they just update XBL through and through, though, but that's just me. If a new XBL system is what they need to improve it's features drastically, then go for it.

XBL the game? I don't understand calling it a sequel. It's a service that evolves and I don't believe anyone thought that XBL would never evolve beyond what it is now.

Microsoft is surely working on their next console, it only makes sense they would also be working on their next enhanced Live service. Don't call it XBL2 though, that's just stupid. Keep it traditional.

Why wouldn't they? It's worked so well so far, they're bound to keep it.

I don't get this whole "sequel" thing at all. Honestly, how is it different than just making improvements to what's there? (Which honestly is what they're going to have to do if they want to keep getting my money).

Probably someone messed up somewhere, they might be preparing for heaps of additions and such, but I can't see them making an XBL2. That's a very stupid move as they'd have to transfer over all accounts, achievements, stats, gold timers, etc. Just isn't worth it when they could simply change XBL to include more stuff and whatnot.

imo they need a LESS watered-down free live. at least give us free online gaming without friends lists or voice chat or some shit.
