After 6 months of production the production rate for the Wii is falling behind the demand. Nintendo reports that they are at full production capabilities but with the Wii's amazing popularity the shortages won't be slowing down any time soon.

"There is a lot going on behind the scenes in terms of working on what we are producing, and the numbers continue to rise, but the product is so very popular that we may see a supply / demand situation last for some time. We are at absolute maximum production and doing everything we can. The number of units that we have been able to produce has far exceeded our hardware production in the past - and the production levels of a lot of our competitors - but demand continues to be really high. People are being really diligent about working with retailers to locate one, but we are cognizant of the fact that a lot of fans are not able to get their hands on one yet. We are asking them to be patient and to know that we are working on this as fast as we can."

They were short on consoles from day one. You would think that by now they would try to meet the demand. Ah, I suppose it's almost the same as the DS' as well. Then again this could just be some marketing scheme from Nintendo.

Just a couple of weeks ago my sister's friend had to lineup hours to get one for her, so I think yes, the shortage is going to continue for a long while yet.

I've been wanting to get a Wii for my brother, but then again I don't want to be on a waiting list to get one.

This is just crazy. I think Nintendo just can't catch up with the demand. I'm sure glad I have my Wii.

Hopefully there won't be shortages of the Wii in about a year, although it's a probability. I can hold out with some great titles on the PS2 for this year at least, anyway.

I love how the Wii is so popular. Quite a few kids at my school have one though for there being a shortage and all. I'm glad I pre-ordered mine on Launch.

I'm glad I pre ordered my Wii now, honestly I wouldn't have thought there'd be so many shortages off them.

Search places you wouldn't expect. Most people search for Wiis in places that specialize in games or places like Walmart. I found mine in a K-Mart and they had about 10 in stock that they'd apparently had for a few days.

I love how I got mine on the release here in Europe. I almost, almost feel bad for everyone who doesn't have one.

good lord. It's the exact opposite of the PS3. They can't make enough. I still can't get one.

I wonder if it will ever die down. Doesn't seem like it.
