Grand Theft Auto IV For PS3 To Outsell Xbox 360 Version!

Despite Microsoft paying some hefty money for extra downloadable content, for their players to experience the full GTA experience. More players are still going for the Playstation 3 version as a survey was conducted and the results were shown.

The Xbox 360 bagged 46% of the votes, while the Playstation 3 version bagged 49% of the votes. Yes it's not much but the players aren't getting anything extra on the Playstation 3 but they are still going to purchase that version. The other 6% have still not decided which version to purchase. With more Xbox 360's in America, the extra downloadable content and all the GTA IV previews we've seen so far have been on the 360 with the PS3 version nowhere in sight. Although honestly speaking both consoles have their positives and negatives. I'll break it down for everyone so it may help you decide on which version to purchase if you own both consoles or help you change your mind to purchasing the PS3 or 360 version.

Xbox 360

Advantages:

  • Extra downloadable content (Will not be free)
  • All GTA IV previews have been showcased on the 360
  • 360 version might be cheaper
  • Don't need to install anything (you may be forced to install some of the files on your hard drive on the PS3)

    Disadvantages:

  • Xbox Live is not free
  • Red Ring of Death can be encountered if the game is played for too long. Basically hardware issues

    Playstation 3

    Advantages:

  • Less chance of encountering a hardware problem
  • The controller (Most players used the Playstation controller since the GTA brand began)
  • PlayStation Network is free
  • Playstation Home (Still need to find out how Rockstar will implement GTA IV into Home)

    Disadvantages

  • No extra content (So if your looking for more downloadable content this version is not for you)
  • Might need to waste some space installing some of the game on your hard drive (This isn't a really big issue, but can be if you purchased the 20GB PS3)

    Installation on the PS3 is pure speculation, so don't quote me on it.

    So which version are you going to purchase? The Xbox 360 version or the Playstation 3 version?

    Microsoft is pretty confident about its chances in the upcoming console showdown around the launch of the Grand Theft Auto IV. And it has every right to be – it has bagged itself an exclusive content deal that literally means the only place to experience the ‘full’ GTA experience is on Xbox. Plus the only preview content seen so far has been running on the 360, so there’s little chance of the game looking or running any better on the PS3.

      I like how they make the graph misleading so it looks as if the PS3 has more voters. I'm getting the 360 version. Already have it reserved, and I don't have a PS3.

      Xbox Live is free if you have a silver account. You can still download content. And even if you play a game for a long time, that doesn't mean you're going to get an RROD.

      I'm getting mine on the Playstation 3 because I've been playing the game since the first with a Playstation controller and that's not just about to change. So the only reason I'm getting the game on the PS3 is because of the controller, that's all really.

      Don't really care about downloadable content to be honest.

      Personally, the installation wouldn't matter to me, it's a huge game, I'm sure it will be big...only problem I ever have with installations is when you have games like DEVIL MAY CRY dumping a load the size of two full games on your damn hard drive.

      The chart is a nice mind trick, makes it seem like the PS3 has a HUGE LEAD when it's only a couple more votes, besides we'll see how much this holds water when GTA4 comes along.

      I honestly don't care which side will sell more, I'm getting it for the 360. Mainly because most of my friends have a 360 and will take advantage of the online features.

      I think we should wait until the game is actually released before we start declaring "winners" here. Personally my copy will be the PS3 version. Not that it matters......it doesn't bother me that it will be released on multiple platforms.

      How is the controller for the ps3 an advantage?? I would say the 360 controller has an advantage.

      Also how come home is a ps3 advanatage and yet achievments for the 360 are not mentioned?

        Why is RRoD an unfair argument to make? It occurs in 30% of all consoles (As of late), where as the rate for PS3 consoles failing is around 3% a tenth of that of the XBOX360, and when remembering that the rate was 60% before for X360, that really is a good point to make.

            Care to elaborate on this "lacking" online service and shitty library? I haven't had an issue finding good PS3 games to play; hell, I can barely afford to get all the games I want (granted, at $60/game it definitely takes a bigger hit out of your wallet with each purchase).

            It's more appropriate when you cite a library to note exclusives instead of ports. It essentially helps strengthen your base of what would make a console "superior" in a library.

            I'm sorry, since when are exclusives all that's part of the console's library? I never said the PS3 library was superior in any way to the 360's, I just said it wasn't the shitfest Cdemon makes it out to be. Just because a game is available on both systems doesn't suddenly mean it's not a legitimate title on any one or the other.

      PS3 most people will be used to playing with the PS3 controller, os therefore an advantage.

      Accomplishments might be better than achievments, I heard accomplishments unlock stuff in Home.

      RRoD perfectly fine argument. Not Sony's fault if Microsoft make a console with an overheating problem. Granted the new ones are fine.

          Pretty much, I've placed my invested GTA experience in the PC versions of the game, not the console editions.

          If that was the case I wouldn't be able to pick up a controller on any system and play it.

      I don't really care what console is best to play IV on, or which brand is better, etc.
      As long as I can play the game, that's what I care.
      And I will play my game on the PS3, not because of some + or - points, but because I never played anything else then PlayStation games for the last 10 years.

      A poll isn't always reliable and I think everyone should not get too excited and wait before declaring who will sell more.

      And Itani. Just because DMC4 and Lost Planet (both of which are Capcom games) need an additional HDD space for the PS3 does not mean every game will. So the disadvantage part about GTA needing additional space is bull.

      P.S I am getting the PS3 version of course.

      The PS3 will be getting some DLC, but it won't be exclusive (not likely)....The only difference between PS3 and 360 DLC, is that the 360 will have two 'episodes', which give several hours of extra gameplay (missions)....

      Just a couple things to point out.
      First of all, 360 Games cost the same as PS3 games. EXACTLY the same. No idea why that was brought up to be honest.
      Secondly, why is the installation a bad thing? For all we know the installation might turn out to be an advantage for the PS3. Not a disadvantage.

      I'll be getting the PS3 version.

        And as for Cdemon's early comment on PS3 library and online service...dude, stop living in yesteryear. We've got a monumentous year ahead for PS3. It might not be enough to finally edge over the 360, but it's still great.

      Poll's are flawed because not everybody is being asked. None of us here took part in it and most of us are getting GTA4, otherwise we wouldn't have looked at this article. Or did all the PS3 fanboys flock in here with erections? I know I'm getting it on 360, if I had a PS3 I'd get it on that. If I had both systems I'd get it for 360 just because of the DLC so I don't see the point in this article.

        I wasn't polled...and unless I'm completely alone in this. There there is no real way to tell which will sell better.

        Honestly though I prefer the Xbox controller so I wouldn't say that ps3 controller is an advantage.

            Yeah, but It's not an advantage too PS3 as there are plenty of people who prefer the 360 controller. So unless this news article is listing the pros and cons for the poster only I don't think that it should be listed as an advantage.
