A Bungie developer has heard about Resistance 2 having a 60-man multiplayer mode, and he isn't wondering if it's possible, since he knows that it is, but the question that he's asking is "How will they stop it from feeling like your running around in a chat room". Of course, he didn't say it in as few a words, but you can hear his words clearly from the Podcast at the source, or simply read them below...

"Some of the stuff that Resistance is doing about trying to keep jacking up the number of guys in a game... I've played Resistance, and I'm a huge Battlefield 2 fan but I'm still interested in how do you keep that number of guys in a game and make it seem like you are actually playing together and not just running around in a chat room. It's real interesting and I wish them well but, yeah, it's a challenge."

Chat-room? As in not flooding the game with useless chatter? Well people can join the pre-set squads that are in the pause menu.

Indeed, Battlefield 2's approach to voice chat is brilliant, and should actually be in EVERY game. Even with small servers I think. Give me the ability to create my own mini chats within game.

I don't think 60 people is an issue. They did just fine with 40, and I doubt 60 is that much more of a challenge. Besides, I think Bungie's just jealous that Insomniac can do it and they can't lol.

Yes because Insomniac was there first, nevermind the CS servers and BF2 servers launching over that number already for quite some time.

It's not much of an issue at all for that. VOIP tends to manage itself once the crowds build and in-game muting works wonders for people trying to spam the mic.

Ah, muting; the antidote to chattermouthed spammers. I don't see how Bungie sees 60 player matches as a challenge, though.

Well Bungie obviously haven't read all the info, big games will be spilt up into squads in order to reduce mic crowding

It makes little difference. In fact, it should be easier, considering everyone is using the same hardware.

In the OPM they said that in the lobby, you get assigned squads (probs about 6 men in each squad), so you only hear your own squads headsets.

Makes perfect sense to me. Besides, there's always room for addon content.
