The big story this week - EA takes aim at Take 2 games. This may not work as a petition however it is one method gamers are hoping to make their voices heard that they do not want Take 2 to succumb and become yet another victim of an EA acquisition.

We, the fans of Take Two Interactive Software, Inc. (T2) games, object to the idea of Electronics Arts (EA) purchasing T2. For the sake of diversity and variety of choices in the video game industry, we would like the two companies to remain separate. Each of the companies make games that are unique to their respective ways. The fans view the purchase of T2 shares by EA, as jeopardizing to the games made by T2, and would not remain loyal if EA acquired any T2 shares. By signing this petition we strongly object the purchase of T2 shares by EA, for the stated and various other reasons.

I'm number 454. It seems to me take 2 doesn't want to sell...but it can't hurt to sign anyway.

I hate EA. Ever since they *bleep*ed up NFL 2k.

What's the point of this petition? Didn't Take Two already say no anyway?

Money speaks louder than a couple of names signed on some digital petition, or even a hand written petition for that matter.

If you guys really wanted to do anything, everyone should donate 5 or 10 bucks to Take 2. I've never understood this petition nonsense, especially in a situation like this. In other situations where say, a game is canceled from being made, I could understand the purpose of a petition. Because it's saying that everyone that signs the petition is a potential buyer and that theres money to be made.

In a situation like this however, by signing a petition all you're saying is, hey, we don't want you to do this and they don't give a shit about you, they just want your money. That's why if you want to make a difference you should donate money. All that being said, why bother? I really don't think it's going to happen.

Very true, but showing support is a great way to build their confidence in remaining independent.

Why give a donation when everyone's gonna buy GTA IV anyways?

I thought that Take 2 already said no. Either way, I've never heard of Take 2.

They made Bioshock and Rockstar which is a subsidiary of Take 2 made the GTA series.

They made the GTA series? Well then I sign, they'd probably kill the GTA series.

Present Take 2 head and the Board of Directors have said no to this offer. That's a pretty strong objection from the company itself and petitions would pretty much only work on those people anyway.

The problem that exists is that at this point EA is trying to get the shareholders to sell. Unless this petition is going to each and every one of them it fails.

yup, totally what Vegi's said. A petition like this to T2 means nothing. As soon as EA goes after the investors and if they convince them it's pretty much a done deal.

Which is not gonna work since Take-Two's sitting on a gold mine right now.

That's the point of their statement though, is that they wish to make the investors feel they're not on a gold-mine but instead on a very critical shaft that might collapse at any point. Instead of talking about what GTA IV will bring to the company, the message is that the upcoming legal trouble will be too much and that their "projected" share buy-out offering is more than generous.

If I were a betting man. I'd say that if Take-Two doesn't sell before GTA releases, EA will back off.

That's at least what I'm hoping.
