Available to be purchased at HMV for £99.99, the PlayTV add-on was supposed to allow UK gamers to watch and download freeview TV straight onto their Playstation 3's Hard drive, and more to that, they would then be able to stream it on their PSP's.

However the accessory which was dated for March 28th has now been canceled by the store after Sony told them that the product "no longer has a scheduled release date". From the looks of it, it seems that HMV may have had inside sources as to it's release date initially and that the accessory may have simply been delayed... or it could be that they made a guess and Sony told them they were far off... whatever it is, it certainly means that the PlayTV is still a while away from being released.

What I don't understand about PlayTV is how Sony are expecting Europeans to fit 5GB installations, game saves, multimedia content (music, photos, etc.) and TV recordings onto a 40GB hard drive.

(And yes I know the PS3's hard drive is expandable but most of my PS3 owning mates don't know about it, never mind how to carry it out)

        Yeah, so would I.

But I feel the average consumer doesn't know about this, as it's not widely advertised. And that said, they'd have to buy a new HDD on top of PlayTV.

Well that depends really on how much they want to record. PlayTV also plays TV channels without needing to record anything. Beside 40GB is plenty.
£100 is a lot though. Hope it's worth it.

I don't know. 5GB installs, demos, game saves and stuff might push it close to the limit.

Well, I'll be happy with my 250GB HDD.
