With Activision and Blizzard's announced merge, the possibility of taking some of Activision's franchises into the MMORPG world becomes a possibility. It's been hinted that they're considering taking COD into that realm. Blizzard seem to hope that their existing MMO fanbase would take to the idea, while Activision help them break into the Xbox Live scene on the back of Call of Duty's popularity.

Before closing its deal with Vivendi (which owns Sierra and Blizzard), Kotick said Activision looked at five years of data on U.S. publishers' attempts to break into the MMO market. Most resulted in failure, cancellation or low profit margins. By teaming up with Blizzard, which has proven its online mettle with World of Warcraft, he said Activision can not only pull in WoW's subscriber base to strengthen its balance sheet but also to learn from the company's veterans how to undertake new projects.

How will that work? Like Tabula Rasa? :S Honestly, even if Infinity Ward handled an MMO of CoD, it'll ruin the franchise (to me, at least). CoD should be FPS, nothing more, nothing less.

Actually, it's a very interesting concept that I've been thinking alot about. It would still be an FPS, but it would be a cooperative online FPS in a living, breathing, changing world, where everyone can interact with one another. This means that, if it was in the WWII time frame, you could fight out battles as they really happened, in terms of realism and time length.
