To answer the question that has been buzzing around for the last few days, it appears that Microsoft are not worried by the high definition DVD situation with regards to the Xbox 360. Since only a relatively small number of people ever bought the HD DVD add-on, this doesn't seem to be a main, or even secondary concern for Microsoft.

"As we’ve long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry. Market data shows that HD movie playback is not a primary purchase driver for consumers buying video game consoles," said Greenberg.

It's true, next to no one bought the addon for 360. A significant amount of people, however, bought standalone HD-DVD players.

Pretty much. You could add to that to say no one will buy a blu-ray attachment either, sure, High-Def is the future, but look how long it took for standard DVDs to actually kick in.

It'll be like that for every new video-viewing generation; everyone is always hesitant to move on to the 'new' format. Surpisingly, Blu-Ray caught on faily quick, but even then, most people are quite comfortably with standard DVDs.

I hope nobody was expecting them to say that they're extremely worried.

Indeed. I don't know why people keep associating Microsoft with HD-DVD when all they did was release an add-on drive. They don't really care who wins.

The HD-DVD compatability wasn't a major peice in the beginning, so of course it doesn't matter now.

Bill Gates is loling at you.

I'm glad I didn't invest in the add-on, I was dangerously close to doing so, though.
