Remember the Mortal Kombat murder from a few months ago? Seven year old Zoe Garcia was beated to death by her sixteen year old step-sister, Heather Trujillo and her 17 year old boyfriend Lamar Roberts using Mortal Kombat moves. And in true media spirit, the game was blamed for the young girl's murder.

But it seems that wasn't the full story. The media "forgot" to add in the other factors that have now come into the light. A few days ago it was announced that Lamar was a thief and had a shady past, and that Zoe's family (including her step-sister) had always been abusive - Their family had always been very dysfunctional and violent.

Though that hasn't stopped the prosecutor Robert Miller from sticking to the belief that Mortal Kombat was the main factor that caused the teenagers' violent attack.

The young Colorado girl’s death at the hands of her stepsister, 16-year-old Heather Trujillo (left) and Trujillo’s boyfriend, 17-year-old Lamar Roberts quickly gained notoriety as the “Mortal Kombat Murder” due to early reports that the accused killers executed video game-like martial arts moves on Zoe following a session of playing the well-known fighting game.

But a news report in yesterday’s Greeley Tribune calls the Mortal Kombat aspect into question. Defendant Heather Trujillo’s aunt and former stepmother both spoke to the newspaper:

quote
Both Henry and Southern said Trujillo was never violent toward their children, and they never saw her use any Mortal Kombat moves. Southern said she thinks Roberts made up the Mortal Kombat story to look tough.

Lamar changed her. He was a thief and not a very good person,” Southern said.

However, prosecutor Robert Miller stuck to the video game angle at a preliminary hearing on Friday.

Lol, I love that it says Mortal Kombat moves though. Unless they figured out how to shoot spears from their hands, or defy physics to do a bicycle kick. It's just kicking and punching which pretty much comes naturally to people.

It's good to see someone shifting the blame off games for once. Honestly, people seem to use the "video games made me do it" excuse like it's an insanity plea. For some reason they think that if they say video games made them do it. They aren't as accountable.

*sighs* As someone said in the other (related) article....Nobody is really focusing on the fact that they are most likely messed up in the head, and the guy (at least) was drunk >_>

Anyhow, why don't they blame....oh, I dunno, martial arts flicks? Or wrestlemania (or whatever wrestling group you prefer)....

"Video game related deaths" is a current media buzz topic, when the game in reality, has little to do with it >_> If they're psychotic and believe the game, they could have believe anything else that was violent (like aforementioned movies and Wrestling shows). Or maybe they're just sadistic people that liked beating up the poor girl? People get ideas from places, sure, but that happense with just about any media (games, TV shows, books even)...It is not the media's fault that they decided to act on the idea...

People are supposed to have the ability to 'reason' out the fact that "oh, MAYBE I shouldn't be beating up a little girl?" an such -_- Unfortunately, some people can't, or won't >_>
