PS3 Firmware 2.17 Released

If you connected to the PSN last night (March 12th) you would have been prompted for an update to the PS3's firmware, accepting would now bring you up to date withe Sony's latest firmware for the PS3, 2.17

Unfortunately, you will not find an in-game XMB. Sony did say March but this 2.17 update seems to just be some compatibility improvement. 2.17 mainly focused on improving online stability for some PS3 titles. We don't know which titles, just that there's some titles.

How hard is it to release a changelog, Sony? seriously. At least Jeff Rubenstein, the "Social Media Manager" cleared some things up a bit by letting us know something.

    Pretty pathetic that people are still saying things like updates being crappy or useless. I'm sure you all would be happier with none of these updates, so the PS3 can run with all kinds of bugs and errors, right? Fixes are necessary and at SOME point, some of you are going to have to accept the fact that you aren't going to get what you WANT in firmware updates, rather something that we all NEED for an efficient gaming experience. The XMB is coming. Show a little patience.

      Word. In-game XMB will come when it comes. In the meantime, I don't care about it.

    I'm assuming there's more to these updates than Sony let on. I reckon they fix a lot of minor behind the scenes issues too. Still, a change log would be appreciated!

    Meh, not that great of an update, not for anyone...Unless you play the games (online) that are being helped out by this update....

    Version X.XX updates are generally just bug fixes, and stuff like that, the X.X ones contain actual feature updates.....

    Anyhow, anybody hoping for in-game XMB should be aware that In-Game messaging is intended for the SUMMER update....and if it is just messaging, In-Game XMB is even further away than that (so maybe fall, for version 3.0 or something, would be fitting for a major firmware # change)....

    2.17 is just a bug fix update that fixes how some games would log you off the PSN. Nothing too major.
