Xbox Live Arcade size limit lifted for upcoming Street Fighter and Bionic Commando remakes

Xenctuary | March 13, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
Capcom has been granted free reign as far as download sizes go for their upcoming Xbox Live Arcade titles, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Bionic Commando Rearmed. The decision was made after it became apparent that both games would require textures to be downscaled in order to meet file size requirements, placing the Xbox 360 versions at risk of being a lesser quality than their respective PlayStation 3 and PC counterparts.

The 150 megabyte file size limit, likely introduced due to the size of standard Xbox 360 hard drives, will continue to be enforced by Microsoft, although similar exceptions may be made in the future if deemed necessary.

Both titles are expected to reach gamers via the Xbox Live Marketplace by the third quarter of 2008.
"Given the sizeable content in Bionic Commando Rearmed and Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Microsoft allowed Capcom to work with a larger file size limit for both of those titles in order to provide gamers with the game experience that Capcom desired, such as full hi-res textures (on Bionic Commando Rearmed) or 1080p support (for SSFIIT)," said the Capcom rep. "The Xbox Live Arcade versions of both titles will have complete feature and graphical parity with the iterations that will be available on other platforms."

Finally, Microsoft have seen some sense! Their encroaching download limits usually spell bad news for the end user, either because the title's overall quality is compromised or because we're forced to make additional purchases to buy content that couldn't make it into the game.

I can't wait to play both of these releases, especially Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. It looks as awesome as its name is! I wonder if the true purpose of increasing the limit was really to fit in its crazy long title...

Udon did the spriting for this remake, didn't they? Amazing...As much as I suck in SF II, I gotta get that, heh.

I just hope they realise that staying entirely faithful to the original will only please the most hardcore of Street Fighter fans. The animations look terrible right now!

Well they're not adding any new frames. If they did, it wouldn't be the same game and timing would be off completely and I would much rather they leave it how it is. Do you mean they just look bad by today's standards or did you see something that just looks bad?
