Should churches be using Halo to lure teens to church? This is a debate that went on for a while towards the end of 2007 and it seemed to have died out. Apparently not. The Baptist Standard decided to revisit the issue. Their stance? Basically, it's up to church leaders to decide whether it should be done or not.

What do warthogs, pelicans, energy swords and Spartan lasers have in common? And how do they relate to John 1:17?

They’re all part of a video game called Halo 3, the top-selling video game of 2007 that pre-sold more than 1 million copies two months before it even hit stores. In the first two weeks after its release, Halo 3—the third installment of Microsoft’s first-person shooter game—made more than $300 million in sales.

“If the Old Testament were a video game, it would make Halo 3 blush.”

A few years ago, I'm not sure if it still goes on, but a few years ago a friend of mine's church allowed the members to go downstairs and play Halo on a big screen TV. It drew in a good deal of people. More people would be drawn into church if more started doing this, but it would be seen as a major gimmick by the majority of the world.

It feels to me like the Halo craze is over. And good riddance too.

ROFL, that'd be ironic. Earths religions using a game about a crusade(on a galactic scale) to lure people into beliefs that have also lead to crusades. It'd be hilarious if the Catholic church used it...

Using video games to get people in the doors can either be good or bad depending on how you look at it. If you're using them to bribe people to come to church who should already be going, then it's stupid and wrong. If you're using it to get people to come that wouldn't normally come then that's smart.

However, using a violent game like Halo 3 that stresses putting hundreds of thousands of bullets into other creatures and humans for fun is just asinine. It's like putting bikini-clad women in a church commercial just to get people's attention.

If they're that desperate for members, why don't they show porn.....they will be overflowing with people.

No, this is stupid. Churches shouldn't be doing this. Teens aren 't going to church to learn about God, they're going to church so they can *bleep* up the Covenant and save the universe. Take away the videogame, they'll stop coming. Churches will realize that they have loyal, religious followers that wouldn't care either way if they had an XBOX in the basement, and that they don't need to lure anyone there with a videogame.
