Despite Sony discontinuing the PS3 20GB console in North America, they are continuing their sales in the Japanese market.

When asked about the decision to drop the lower end model from North American retail, a representative of SCE told Famitsu.com, "We're currently not considering changes akin to North America. However we would like to react flexibly with the market."

They aren't discontinuing the PS3 as a whole, just the 20GB model! Besides, Japan gets everything, anyways >_

I guess the 20 gig model is more popular in Japan than America then?

I'm sure they'll start selling them in NA sometime soon, what with the era of PS2 coming to a stop and everything.

Well they were selling them in NA until recently, when they got discontinued due to lack of demand

Eventually they will probably have to continue them in North America because there is always the people that will want the cheaper system and without the cheaper console for the PS3, the Xbox 360 Basic and the Wii will only get further ahead.

Yeah, taking these away will slash their sales records when dealing with Microsoft. They've probably already given up on the Wii.

What do you mean "they've probably already given up on the wii"?

I was saying that Sony wasn't focusing as much on beating Nintendo than on beating Microsoft in sales.

I would imagine that general demand for the PS3 in Japan is a lot higher than it is in NA, really.

I wonder why anyone would want the 20GB console anyways. The 60GB is much better and only $100 more here. ^-^

Those on a budget who don't want to pay for a $200 increase were considered, I believe, but as seen I guess everyone would prefer to spend that much more to have a lot more space.
