What every gamer hoped would happen sometime in their lifetime looks to be coming to fruition. This device, once released, will revolutionise the gaming world. Imagine not having to move and still play games.

The only downside is that it may lead people to just waste away sitting in a comfy chair for hours on end with zero movement.

NEUROHEADSET that allows the wearer to play videogames simply by thinking has been unveiled at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and will go on sale later this year.

The Emotiv EPOC "brain-computer interface device" looks like a headphone strap with 14 neurosensors that branch off it like fingers. The sensors sit on the sides of the temple and top of the head.

The device can detect conscious thoughts, areas of brain activity, facial expressions and even some emotions such as frustration, shock and anger, and will cost about $US300 ($326) when it is released in late 2008.

This would be awesome, until you think "Delete Saved Game"
Then you might want to revert to a controller again

Personally I am a little sceptical as to the actual merits of this but I thought everyone would wnat to hear that it wasnt just a pipe dream.

As for being something I would like...not sure, but ill definately give it a go if it's proven safe, eg. doesnt fry your brain cells.

Definitely isn't my lifetime dream, it would be interesting to try out and I'm sure in the future they will get a really good version of it.

These things don't work as well as advertised. I used one back in 1996 .. and it sucked.

Furthermore, I suggest you check out this link for a laugh:

    Good post though.

im not puttin that junk on my head. gonna end up getting hypnotized and find yourself with a bloody knife or something lol. besides, using a controller makes playing games that much more fun.

look how lazy this world is getting, if gamers dont have controllers then where do they get their exercise lol.

You'll never really be able to play a decent game with one of these, unless they really come a long way.

What it basically does it take a gauge of your brain's electrical activity -- not much different that a electro-meter would, if you were testing a motherboard or something. It can generally only sense either two states: either you are thinking really hard, or not thinking that hard. You don't have much more fine control than that.

I mean even at the unveiling conference (as I linked above) the thing didn't even work well enough to use, and that guy undoubtedly practiced hard-core for the seminar.

Sure you can play using you thoughts, but gameplay is going to be a little limited isnt it ? Also, what happens if you start thinking of other things whilst playing

I'll stick with the controller thank you very much. I don't trust putting something that *bleep*s with your brain like that on my head. Not only that, but to quote the angry video game nerd, imagine wearing that shit out in public or in front of people, you'd look like an asshole.

It looks cool, but i would not want to beta test it. If they found a way for it not to not read all of your thoughts, i might consider it. I actually kinda sounds creepy ):

I'll stick with the controller to play video games.
