Some games age like a fine wine, while others spoil over time. GamesRadar takes a look at several games that have aged badly over the years, judging by graphics, controls, and overall gameplay.

Some games are utterly timeless. Super Mario Bros is still perfect. Soul Calibur 1 is still beautiful. But this is GR’s Week of Hate, after all. So here are the once-great games that might shock you if you play them today.

I disagree with what they said about Oblivion. Sure, I would probably rather play Mass Effect over it, but it's still a great game in its own right.

After playing Mass Effect, I would still to this day prefer playing Oblivion for hours on end much like I did when I first bought it.

I disagree about what they said with Sonic. I still play the classic sonic on my Ipod. It never bores me.

I'm surprised to see Motorstorm make the list, but they do have a point. If Motorstorm was released today for the PS3, it would probably be met with negative reviews. It was impressive at launch time, not so much today.

As for Tomb Raider, I totally agree. I tried playing that game a few months ago, and I just couldn't put up with the controls.

Disagree with most of what they say. They are all like the greatest games ever and still are. Sonic i had way baack when it first hit dreamcast and its still a peach, and no way are there anything wrong with the graphics :/. Oblivion is still an amazing game 12 months on and im sure it will be 12 years on, the graphics are still great and the gameplay is unmatched by anything. One i cant understand is tomb raider, i mean wtf is wrong with the controll system. So what if you have to sidestep to pick up a maedi-pack, its jsut nit picking. Its one of them games that you just keep going back to play again and again whether it be on psx or psp through emulation . Some of it though they are spot on: Gauntlet-Abysmal then and abysmal now, MK2 was never that good, the animations weren't as crisp or the move system as fluent as its counter part street fighter

The original arcade Double Dragon is still awesome. I came so close to buying it a few years ago for my garage.. wish I did..

Why not put one of the other Elderscroll games on here. They work just as well. Not to mention there's been actual time since they've released...

edit. I was wondering why I got neggathumbed for this. Then I realized it's games that "haven't" stood the test of time. Still if you don't like Oblivion you'd hate Morrowind.

I certainly don't agree with Super Mario 64. The graphics aren't terrible. They're simplistic and cartoon-y, but it looks like that was the style Nintendo was going for, so it hardly makes the game ugly, let alone unplayable.

Most of that list is pretty poor though. Sure, most of those games are pretty outdated, but there are plenty of other games that haven't stood the test of time AT ALL. (Final Fantasy VII is one of them. You'll NEVER get a new gamer to play that one).

But they're right about Tomb Raider. Those controls were absolutely awful. I spent about 80% of the game falling off ledges. >_>

This guy is a complete idiot.

"Ok so these older games aren't as pretty as the newer games, so they all suck!"

    Please...

I'm willing to say that Super Mario 64 is better than any of our current, modern-day videogames. Would you guys recommend downloading it for my Wii?

I have to disagree with that statement. I love the game but I couldn't say it's better than anything we have now.

I guess I'm the only one here who prefers the classics. Try playing it again, and if you were playing it when you were three or four (I know I was), great memories should come back.

I'd certainly say that Super Mario 64 is still better than alot of crappy repetitive platformers that are being spewed out today.

I really disagree with Oblivion and Motorstorm. In Motorstorm, you're moving 100+ miles per hour off road, and all the viewers are in places that are unreachable. It's not like you can see them anyways.

The lack of split screen did mess it up quite a bit though.

I think this list pretty crappy. Seriously Motorstorm and Oblvion dated? yeah right

Wow, to bring up MotorStorm? Especially when you look at a game like Forza 2. I mean that wasn't even close to a launch title and look at that game, it looks appalling. MotorStorm still looks quite good when you're not zooming into the spectators that are usually at least 50 feet away from the player to begin with.

It's funny to see them bash the gameplay though, considering I have absolutely no problems racing a completely crash-free race consistently. Yes, the game can definitely be unforgiving but that doesn't make it's gameplay flawed, it just means you suck at the game. Funny to see critics that go and praise games like Ninja Gaiden and DMC though with their difficulties. It's unfair though to blame a racing game, you can't just have different difficulty settings for racing physics.

Oblivion being mentioned is a joke. MotorStorm being mentioned is a joke. Super Mario 64 being mentioned is...

    You get the point.

Oblivion is one of, if not THE, greatest RPG ever released. How the hell is it dated?? Outstanding graphics, Super gameplay, easy controls and infinite replayability. Idiots!

They're right about how annoying it was to pick up items on TR1, lol. >.>

    I don't see how SM64 aged badly...I think it's a classic.

I was kinda 'ehhh' abou this list >_>

I still play Oblivion a fair bit >_> I have it on 1080i (would be 1080p upscaled if I had the right cables)....

Oblivion's graphics are a bit dated in parts, and from the get-go, the characters facial designs weren't all that good, but meh, the game is still very enjoyable >_>

Well, some games can be 'really awesome looking' from when they were released, but after a while, the graphics become out-dated, and you're left with a game, and it's (sometimes) now shallow gameplay >_>

3D graphics get outdated way faster than 2D, of course >_>

I agree with tallteen86 'ehhh'. I loved Mario 64, and i'd still play it. To be honest i'd play Mario 64 instead of Mario Galaxy of all i care.
