It's clear for the whole industry to see that Nintendo's online strategy where the Wii is concerned, lags way behind that of the Xbox 360 and PS3. Nintendic discusses why Nintendo really needs to act fast if the damage so far isn't to become irreversable.

It’s hardly an industry secret that Nintendo is the most reluctant console manufacturer of “the big three” when it comes to pushing online play on its latest home console. Xbox Live has really set the benchmark when it comes to providing what players now readily expect from a gaming experience that takes them into the wider virtual world outside of their own machine, Sony also seems to want to reach that same wavelength, but Nintendo still appears somewhat cautious about the whole idea - a decision that could potentially harm the chances of the Nintendo Wii in the years to come.

I have to agree. Nintendo is really limiting their online. I would really love voice chat, not no stinkin pre-written comments.

Lag on Brawl is horrible. Seriously, get into Sudden Death Match, and with one-sided lag, you're dead before the screen fully loads.

I can't imagine that it would be very hard to implement a few XBL-ish features. If Nintendo is concerned about little kids, then I don't know why. Parents should judge whether or not their kid should have the game, and care enough to disable functions they don't want their kids using. If kids get exposed to 'bad' online stuff, the parents must take responsibility for that.

Lol, I wouldn't worry about kids. 90% of the most annoying/unbelievably ignorant shit I've heard on Xbox Live has come from a kid who's voice hasn't changed yet.

True. I've played some guys on CoD:4 on Playstation Network, and they sound like they're only 7.

Kids say the darndest things, especially over the interwebs. But yeah, if they keep limiting their own Online play, it'll hurt them in the near future.

There are parental controls put on the console for a reason... or is there? The various folds and layers of security appear to be too much.

Admittedly though the first thing I'd do with voice chat is swear at one of you in SSBB because I have once again started attacking in the wrong direction.

Whats the point in parental controls when the average Wii gamer is 6 and the average Wii game is E for Everyone, it makes sense on the PS3 and Xbox 360 when the average gamer is between 16 and 32 and the average game is an M for Mature these days.

Screw the kids if it's killing your console.
They shouldn't worry about it, I rarely hear stories about people being raped after playing video games.
    It's quite stupid.

And I already have some bad taunts in Brawl, so why won't it let us say them?

I can't honestly say, even as a Nintendo fanboy, that they're wrong about the Nintendo WiFi. Lag for Brawl is surprisingly atrocious, and voice chat would be nice. Nintendo WiFi is easily differential from XBOX 360 and PS3 Internet.
