GameDaily has polled the public and come up with a list of the 10 greatest consoles in history. How they found thay many consoles is a whole nother story, but this list is now published and ready to be read and critiqued.
10. Nintendo Gamecube
Despite the fact that it looked like a purple lunch box, it's hard to hate on Nintendo's Wii-predecessor with its fantastic video game lineup. We blasted TIE Fighters in Rogue Squadron II, pummeled friends senseless in Super Smash Bros. Melee and sailed the high seas in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Gamecube also spurred the release of the wireless Wavebird game pad, one of the best controllers in history.
8. Nintendo 64
Why is the N64 our #8 pick? One word: GoldenEye. That classic James Bond game consumed hours of our time, as we and our friends huddled around a TV blasting one another using all rockets or all lasers. Ah yes, and that Super Mario 64 isn't half bad. We also grappled with THQ's wrestling games, blew holes through dinosaurs in Turok 2 and fought the Great Mighty Poo in Conker's Bad Fur Day. N64 was expensive and couldn't match the PSone's cinematic greatness, but it was one hell of a console, with rumble, cool 3-D visuals and a well-designed controller.
6. Sony PlayStation
Sure, some people had to flip the original PlayStation upside down to make it work, but technical difficulties didn't stop us from enjoying a phenomenal lineup that forever changed gaming. Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Ridge Racer, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Cross, Tenchu, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo; clearly one of the greatest legacies in gaming.

That thing had some of the best games I have ever played in my life.

No current gen consoles should be on there.
360 as number one is pretty funny though.
But yeah, 360 wtf? I was expecting the PlayStation. I mean how can you not love the PlayStation? The original is just so full of real gems of titles. PlayStation, whether you hate Sony or not, really revolutionized the industry and brought it into the mainstream.
Having any current gen system in a list of the top 10 greatest consoles ever is just really ignorant and short sighted. PS3, Wii, 360, none of them deserve to be on there. Maybe the 360 ends up having a really terrible 2nd half lifespan, maybe the Wii starts getting really amazing games. Maybe the PS3 completely fails and MGS4 sucks, who knows, it's just so stupid to include any of them on this list.
Fail.
10.Sega Dreamcast
9.Nintendo Gamecube
8.Xbox
7.Sega Genesis
6.Playstation
5.N64
4.NES
3.Xbox 360
2.Playstation 2
1.SNES
This list is just what I thnk.
"my god 360 is sh************* ps3 rocks 360 should be the last and ps3 2 1 and wii should be in first man 360 is cow @#$%^&*()!@#$%$^&*(_ go to hell x box bill gates sucks and his products 360 turns red if u play for 2 hours and if you turn it off for a long time a virous comes and crashes it and and whats good about the 360 is .................................................. ( 3 years later) ........ nothingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg go to hellllllllllllllll 360 u suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk"
Haha, no I kid. Pretty good list, the 64 should have been higher though.
Edit: Shut up jeevan.
And yes, feel free to thumb me down as well...
I'll take the PS2 and SNES over it any day. I'd consider the PS1 ahead of the PS2 except that my PS1 actually crapped out on me so I had to use my PS2 to play all those games anyway.
I honestly don't see why the PS1 made it. I never liked it much, plus most games never got me much.
The XBOX360, I admit, deserved to be up high, but not #1. I think that the 64 and Wii both beat it. The 360 should have been about fourth in my opinion, maybe third. I also say completely take out the DS. Ya, I have one, I play it, it has some good games, but to be up as high as it is, no. It isn't that good. The NES and SNES should have also been higher, both had classic games that started many a franchises, such as Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, and many others.
Also, the DC makes it on the list and the Wii doesn't? The DC was slow, clunky, and had only the VMUs and a poorly chosen dialup modem adapter for technical achievement. Its games were fun, but there was hardly enough to keep it afloat. The Wii made more technical advancement in gaming before it was even released than it did in its lifecycle. :/
I've never played the 360 so I can't really say much about that.
But c'mon, 360 at number 1? My memory is still scarred from my PS1 and PS2 memories.
No surprise PS3 isn't on there. It hasn't had enough time to give any definitive impression. I'd like to be hopeful that it'll eventually make someone's top 10, but there is a LOT of hate going around against it.
im really not use to xbox controllers cause im too use to playstation controllers. ps controllers fit the hand to perfection and its simple enough.
It's just stupid. I understand, the dreamcast was an awesome console, there were a couple of games that were definitely fun, but the only reason to put the dreamcast so high up is to, like i said, make a statement and get some "street cred" so to speak.
1. NES
2. Nintendo 64 (wow, what a fanboy start.)
3. PS2
4. XBOX 360
5. Nintendo Wii
6. SNES
7. PS3
8. SEGA Dreamcast
9. SEGA Genesis
10. XBox
Honorary Mention: Atari Jaguar, for most epic fail.
TBH, excluding the NESes and the 64, you can't really have much of a fight with these consoles. They all have their ups and downs, and it depends on what features you go after. So in that case, even my list isn't honestly that good.
