Audiophiles who pick up Rockstar Games' latest title, Grand Theft Auto IV, will be able to mark in-game music for later purchasing via Amazon.com's digital music download store.

Players can use in-game menus to gain information on the currently playing song and have its details emailed to the email address associated their Rockstar Games Social Club account. The email messages will also contain a direct link to an Amazon.com custom playlist that will allow the selected songs to be downloaded from $0.89 per track.

Grand Theft Auto IV will be released internationally on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems April 29.

In a partnership bound to shake, rattle and roll both the music biz and interactive entertainment, Rockstar Games and Amazon have teamed up to create an ambitious new model for digital music distribution. Built exclusively for the upcoming video game blockbuster Grand Theft Auto IV, it allows players to buy real-world MP3s of tracks heard over the game's numerous radio stations in a very seamless manner. (Initially, this service will only be available in the U.S.)

Doesn't matter to me, I'm always listening to any hilarious shit they have int he "Chatting" radio station.

But I don't get it, the radio music already comes from another band/singer, it's not like it's some sort of GTA exclusive music.

The songs played in the game could always be purchased from Amazon.com as digital downloads.

However, this new feature allows you to instantly send an in-game text message using the character's phone to receive the artist and title of the currently playing track. Once you've marked several songs this way, you can go and access a personal playlist on Amazon.com from your computer and buy them all. For convenience a link to this playlist is also emailed to you.

It's simply a different method of generating music sales through an already established outlet.
