Kazunori Yamauchi, the main man behind the Gran Turismo series has said that they wish to include car damage soon. Supposedly, the reason they haven't had it is because they haven't been able to convince enough car companies to let them put it in. This makes sense, when you try to compare the amount of cars in Forza, for example, to Gran Turismo 4. This is also the reason that Motorstorm used fictional cars and not real ones.

The interview also mentions that Yamauchi has wanted online play since Gran Turismo 3 on the Playstation 2, and that he is very interested in incorporating Home into the Gran Turismo franchise, and that he has been inspired by it.

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said we should expect vehicle deformation in his games "very, very soon".

"We really, really want to put damage onto our vehicles," he told GamerTV (as spotted by VG247). "We've had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and, although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they're slowly coming around to it.

"We've still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon," he added.

YES!!!! I've been waiting for this for a long time. I knew it'd happen, I just wanted to hear it from PD themselves.

Agreed. For Polyphony though, "Soon" means "Within 3 years".

So, what, damage modelling for GT6 instead?

If they update Prologue, I might just pick it up.

If Polyphony Digital got the go ahead and put as much effort into the damage modeling as they do the actual car models themselves there would be no competition for this series for a long long time.

Even Forza 3, i mean damage modelling isn't a word i would even use for Forza 2... Burnout Paradise is damage, Forza 2 is well dents lol, if Gran Turismo 5 has damage i am sure it will be special lol..

If Forza 3 is the same joke of a game as Forza 2 then there's no way in hell.

"I hit you at 200mph *30 spins later* What?!? Only minor paintwork damage and a tiny dent! They said this game had damage"

Thats what, the damage was none existant yet they pushed the damage modelling, its hardly Burnout Paradise, sure it had the physics but if Forza 3 is like Forza 2 then the damage will be equally as poor.

I still wouldn't call it a joke of a game just because of that though, but I guess you have a point. It definitely wasn't as extensive as I thought it was going to be.

Off topic - Why do I get a thumbs down for asking a straightforward question? Don't people have a brain in their heads?

I don't know who thumbed you down, people do it pretty randomly, but yeah, Forza 2 is nothing special and Gran Turismo is much more realistic when it comes to real world track time comparisons.
It's only a joke because of how some people tout it as this GT killer when it really doesn't do anything too outstanding.

I'm not getting another GT game until there's damage. Its just so boring without it. I mean, slamming into the guardrails at top speeds and all I do is "bounce" off? C'mon!

      Existenz Mar 29, 08
You don't bounce anymore trust me, it is like they have the damage system made they were just waiting for absolute permission to use it, you hit the wall full on and you hit the wall, it is quite brutal even without damage.

Mint I hope very soon is an update for prologue. Although, it'll still be good if it comes of GT5.

That's what I want to know. Will damage modelling be included in GT5; or when they say 'soon', do they mean any future GT installments?

This was soething that was defintily missing from the Gran Turismo games, now it will get a little harder if you hit your racers out of the way like me

Well, it was a long time coming wasnt it, and knowing polyphony, it still will be.
