Call of Duty 4's Variety Map Pack has gained timed exclusivity on the Xbox 360. The four multiplayer maps will remain exclusive to the Xbox Live Marketplace for 21 days, before being released on the PlayStation 3 and PC.

The Xbox 360 version of the Variety Map Pack will be made available this Thursday for 800 Microsoft Points.

Those without the critically acclaimed first person shooter will be able to pick up a Game of the Year Edition this Thursday, which includes both the full original game and a download code for the Variety Map Pack.

The Variety Map Pack features four detailed and satisfyingly expansive multiplayer environments which are exclusive to Xbox 360 for 21 days! ‘Creek’ is as lush, green and watery as its name suggests, featuring a cluster of houses set within an idyllic scene. As a result players can choose whether to take up long-range sniper positions or get involved in the close-quarters fighting in and around the houses. With a waterfall at the end of the creek bed, a cave system to get lost in and a cliff face to rule, Creek offers a huge variety of tactical options that will challenge even the most well-rehearsed of squads.

‘Broadcast’, by contrast, is set within the Iraqi television station encountered in the ‘Charlie Don’t Surf’ mission of the single player campaign. However, rather than being a straightforward copy of the original, developer Infinity Ward has greatly expanded its architecture, adding to the cavernous central room with corridors, staircases and cubicles to lurk in. It’s also possible to take up positions on the roof of the building, but keep an eye out for air-strikes and helicopter back-up.

Completing this brilliant bundle we have the rain-soaked ‘Chinatown’, which is a moonlit remake of the classic Call of Duty ‘Carentan’ map, and ‘Killhouse’ which features a desolate training warehouse filled with a variety of building mock-ups and hard cover points. Well, most of them are hard...

The Variety Map Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace from early April for 800 MS Points . And don’t forget that it’s exclusive to Xbox 360 for 21 days!

Call of Duty 4 reluctantly left my Xbox 360 disc tray earlier this week, entirely as a result of the free release of the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack. Looks like it's just charmed its way back in again!

Why is this tied to the PS3? Very childish.

Childish? This articles lets PlayStation 3 and PC owners know when to expect the new content while also informing them of the impending Game of the Year Edition.

I'm sorry, but how is that in the least bit childish?

Take off your Sony army cap and PlayStation 3 rucksack. These are video game consoles, not political artifacts.

THE PS3 IS AS BIG AS A RUCKSACK!!!

    LOL.

I won't be picking these up, I've almost cut back all together on gaming recently. But they look great.

They even have exclusivity deals with MAP PACKS now? Jeez man this is ridiculous.

I guess they want to prove to their subscriber base that Xbox Live is "worth it". Which isn't at all a bad thing for Xbox 360 owners who fork out for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions!

Thats the thing. If you're already paying for XBL, is something like this really going to prove it to you? Its not like a 21 day exclusive deal on a map pack is going to make people go buy an XBOX 360 itself.

Well, it'd sure keep you paying!

The exclusive is only because PSN will be down for 2 weeks and they obviously weren't planning on putting it on PSN next week.

That's a fair point, I never thought of it like that. I wonder why the PC content is delayed too, though.

I can't wait for these, great news. COD 4 has been by far my most played game since launch and it still is.
