Hideo Kojima likes to dream. He likes to dream big. In fact, he's dreamt up a game so big that it's theoretically impossible because there's not enough space. Could Metal Gear Solid 4 be a case of a console failing developers?

The world may never know...

Regardless of this, one comment Kojima made during the whole trip really struck me, putting in perspective the whole idea of ‘next gen’ and the subtle disappointment we’ve had as gamers with our PS3s and our 360s.

But before I put this out there, I don’t want this to be interpreted as a ‘Kojima hates the PS3, or MGS4 sucks’ quote, because neither are even close to being true – but Kojima claimed, through a translator, that when making Metal Gear Solid 4, he started out trying to make a 10, but ended up with a 1.

    what?! hell no

kojima, as much as i respect the guy, gets waaaaay over his head with stuff

originally, half the features in MGS2 was gonna be in MGS1, but he couldnt as there were restrictions
and with MGS3, he couldnt do everything he wanted and therefore new features end up on next gen

that guy seriously has to come back to earth one day

If the PS3 isn't good enough then he would have no chance with any console, PS3 has the big 3, Graphics, Processing and Blu-Ray those for the standard developer would be enough, but not Hideo the stupid fool, he realised the boundaries of hardware for the last games why not this time...

Not exactly a duplicate. This is about someone speculating about how the PS3 isn't good enough. It is not the same story though it has the same theme

It seems Metal Gear Solid 4 was originally designed to run on the Death Star.

This is old news. We've already discussed this and this isn't a case of hardware or software limitations, it's artist limitation.

It's clearly not going to be a 1 type of game, in fact MGS4 will probably get near perfect scores I'm guessing. This is an example of Kojima having this idea of MGS4 in his head and not being able to come close to that in actual development of the game.

Every artist goes through this but I guess it helps to actually be an artist to understand this. I don't know how many times I've thought work that I've done was absolute crap but other people seem to cherish it.

"Dreams of the unattainable kind are the best"
Yup, that's just it I suppose. I now kinda feel that it's justifiable that his son hates MGS.

More like the Playstation 3 failed Kojima. It would be different if the MGS series had someone who's head wasn't always up in the clouds behind it.
