Gamers have a large voice in America.
Ron Paul recognized it, and now it seems that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have as well, albeit unintentionally. If you don't like political talk, you might want to avoid WoW at times where many Americans are on, at least until it's decided which candidate will receive the Democratic nomination. The competition between Obama and Clinton is so fierce right now that people are chatting about it in World of Warcraft, annoying others like huntyr who use it as a temporary escape from the stresses of real life. Unfortunately, the 2008 presidential race in America seems to be bringing the real world and the cyber world on a crash course, and the more heated the race for the Democratic nomination becomes, the fiercer debates will be, thus speeding up the seemingly inevitable collision.
For years much of the older generation has been complaining about the lack of involvement with today's youth in American democracy. Now, thanks to the close presidential race, modern technology, and yes, even World of Warcraft, it looks like the enthusiasm and national pride the Land of the Free was once known for is slowly starting to come back. Well done, Obama and Clinton. Weeell dooone. I would salute both of you, but neither of you are commander in chief and I'm not in uniform. Sorry.
The primary race between Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is so competitive, it has even barged into the online universe of the World of Warcraft game. Millions of players are supposed to be fighting dragons, raiding enemies and performing magical quests — not discussing superdelegates.
And yet over the past few weeks, WoW has been "teeming" with people gabbing about the election, says Sean Goldman, 36, a player from Van Nuys, Calif.
