DigiTimes started up a very intriguing rumor yesterday about Microsoft eventually integrating Blu-Ray drives with Xbox 360 consoles. Now they've even gone on to predict a price war between the 360 and the PS3!

If this rumor proves to be true, Microsoft could slowly regain some ground in the console war... But if I were them, I'd be more focused with the high console failure rates before I started adding Blu-Ray in.

DigiTimes is feeling pretty confident about the rumors they started yesterday regarding the Xbox 360 with integrated Blu-ray. They are so confident that they're predicting a price war as Microsoft takes on Sony's PS3 at its own game. Their sources claim that the Blu-ray Disc drive will cost Microsoft between $95 and $100 -- much higher than the $18 to $20 DVD drives already found in the Xbox 360.

True, but there's not much point with the Red Ring of Death still being a pain in the ass for Microsoft; Sony will just be selling more consoles once they're in a more affordable range.

If this were to happen im sure a price war would become ever so much closer but with further speculation of this, I doubt much will come of a price wars as the PS3 will be ever so much closer to the 360's price or even undercutting it.

If they did release blu ray drives in their console, wouldn't that make all current 360s last gen?

      jmac353 Apr 2, 08
No. Where on earth do you get that from? Microsoft would never release their games on the Blu-Ray format.

Then why were they talking with Sony about adding Blu-Ray to the 360? That alone shows that they've at least toyed with the prospect. Even Microsoft knows when it's time to give in.

It is FAR too late to add blu-ray drives in the 360. Microsoft has already sold far too many 360s. If anything, it will be nothing more than a Blu-ray add on port.

YOU MISSED THE POINT IDIOT! 360 games will never be released on Blu-Ray discs, Blu-Ray drives are combo drives. 360 games would still come on DVDs and would play just fine in the Blu-Ray drives, it would just give the ability to play BR movies on the 360.

Wow you are a damned fool. What the hell are you thinking.

What shocks me is that jmac gives excellent points in all the above argument, yet all of them are thumbed down. I mean, come one. The truth is the truth.

If people miss the facts just because of the manner in which it is said, then it's not jmac who should be thumbed down.

If the prices go down that will be a win for me, if I ever want to get one of them.

But it's true that they should fix the Red Rind of Death before adding more features.

You and me both. I believe I shall wait for a price drop, as well as the reintroduction of large hard drives and BC.

We don't need another damned war going on between consoles. The exclusives battle is annoying enough.

PS3's aren't that expensive; the 80GB was only $450 last time I checked.
