Microsoft: No Blu-Ray 360 Drives from Lite-On

Avalith | April 02, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
We're all probably aware by now that DigiTimes claimed that Lite-On was developing Blu-Ray drives for the 360, which sparked speculation that a price war could be on the horizon. Microsoft, however, has said that Lite-On is not developing Blu-Ray drives for their console. However, they have not said that Blu-Ray isn't a possibility for the 360 in the future, but they're sticking with their cheap $20 DVD drives for now.
Jon Hicks, editor on Official Xbox 360 news told us earlier: "I'm not surprised. If they were going to announce something like this then they would certainly not do it right now. As I've said in the past, they haven't ruled out Blu-ray on 360 and if we ever were to see anything, then I would imagine it would be announced much nearer to Christmas."

I can see Microsoft in the future eventually integrating Blu-Ray into their consoles, however it would be like the Premium vs. Arcade package. You can get it with the regular DVD drive or with Blu-Ray, so it doesn't completely replace the Premium packages.

Actually I see them putting it into their next console instead, instead of just putting it into the existing one. They should really focus on fixing the RROD first.

How many times are you going to say that?

Are you saying the RROD is no issue? Because it is a big issue. If you get the RROD and you had your downloaded content on your hard drive and you get Microsoft to fix the console... well you just lost all your downloaded content. The RROD needs to be fixed. ASAP.

The Red Ring of Death is undoubtedly the 360's failing point right now. Fix that and maybe it'll have a chance.

It doesn't have a chance with it? Cause, here it is, still selling strong.

Jesus Christ orez, I'm saying Andrew has brought that up in two different articles when it was completely irrelevant. "MGS4 has a PS3 bundle? Cool. But Microsoft should fix the RROD."
