Also who cares if he has never played a video game...he again raises a good point. He doesn't have to try heroin or teen pregnancy to criticize and dislike them. Honestly, this article is not the bashing type of thing you made it seem. It is just a persons opinion of video games where he actually brings of valid points as to why they are a "waste of time" in a sense.
video games are just like board games or card games or sports. does he not allow his kids to do those?
video games are a way to have fun like any other thing you find fun. to me this is the strangest reason to dislike video games.
he would allow his kids to play sports because it gets them outside and gets them active and keeps them healthy. where as his argument to video games would be that there is no "real" interaction with people and they just sit around. man you are an idiot.
besides their are a ton of video games that are to educate you like for lil kids leapsters.
I just find it funny that I am a pretty big gamer and still see where this guy is coming from. You 2 are just seeing it as a guy going "Drugs and teens pregnancy are the same as videogames" and nothing more.

My parents see my video game habits as a big waste of time as well I'm sure a lot of peoples parents do as well. I don't see how it is ridiculous for him to compare them to something so severe. It was done specifically to create some sort of drastic comparison where a reader wouldn't normally thing of drugs, teen pregnancy, and video games to have any correlation. He could of easily used less severe things but it wouldn't of made his point as sharp as it is now.
in personal expeiriences video games have taught me alot about life in general and has even improved the way my mind works. i can now think more strategicly and my reflexes work better. as a kid its helped me with my struggle in math as well.
and like i said does he feel the same way towards sports and board games?
I consider camping in the woods a waste of time, yet the author seems to think that's what kids should be doing instead of playing video-games. I'd personally rather stay nice and warm indoors while being entertained, rather than sitting out in the cold and damn wilderness pitching a tent to sleep in. I've been camping many times and have found very little enjoyment in it, so how it that more constructive than doing something I enjoy? (i.e. gaming).
Though that doesn't mean I'm going to go and write an article saying that nobody should go camping because I consider it a waste of time.

So I'd say I have more right to give an opinion on the matter because I have actually experienced the thing that I think is a waste of time. Plus, I didn't compare camping to teen pregnancy and heroine (unlike said author).
In yours and my eye it is not a waste of time because we enjoy it. In his it is. He used drugs and sex as examples of other things he sees as a waste of time in HIS EYE.

If you seriously think people can't get addicted to video games as well as them not being able to ruin your life...you are an ignorant child. Plenty of people in the world of addicted to video games and I am sure plenty of them have ruined there life in some way because of there addiction.
I don't get it at all. I'm just trying to put what the guy is saying in a perspective that I thought other gamers like myself would be able to understand. I have learned a lot from games. My math is better because of them too. I don't deny the benefits of games. If you look at the big picture though, games WILL NOT get you into college. GAMES WILL NOT get you a job in the future (unless like I said, you are a professional gamer and do the tourneys and shit) In that sense...gaming is just a waste of time hobby just like any other hobby out there. Sure, plenty of people do it...but does that really mean they couldn't be doing something that would benifit themselves as well as the society more?
You know, the same thing can be said for Chess...not exactly will get you ahead in life, but is it really a waste of time?

He isn't saying stats, he isn't calling out particular video games. He is just making the statement that he believes playing video games is a waste of time. I don't know much about Satanism, but I sure as hell sit here and say worshiping it is a waste of time.
I don't get why people jump of other people so much for their opinions when they don't do a half bad job at backing them up. But then again I forget that when someone says they don't like video games on the interwebs...people just can't let it go.

By the way are your parents religious or your primary school? Because at an early age you can beleive anything and sometimes that will only get bigger as you get older especially if you are scared of it.
You don't know the first thing about evolution, it takes hundreds of years to happen and things only evolve if they need to, right now most species are perfectly content as they are now, so their genes don't try to adapt to the environment, and if you don't beleive in evolution you can't beleive in dinosaurs or the mammals that survived in that age and went on to be other living beings in this age.

I don't think I'll even bother commenting on his opinions themselves, since pretty much everything has already been said, and dissecting something this idiotic will just belittle my own intelligence. However, I do want to post a few of the counterpoints I would love to give this author to think of.
When the Wright Bros. were playing with kites, I'm sure people thought it was a waste of time. However, this "useless hobby" lead to the invention of airplane, and all of the benefits that invention has brought society.

It is humanity's ability to escape and dream that separates us from animals, and allows us the ability to develop and change the world for the better. Hurray hypocrisy!
Speaking as a life long gamer who graduated at the top of his high school class and is preparing to graduate with a BS degree in Chemistry from a university consistently ranked among the top 25 universities in the United States, I can safely say video games are no more decremental to character or education than any other form of entertainment.
Technology is the wave of the future, hence why this author's article can now be viewed by people worldwide. As this trend continues to escalate, experience with technology will be an invaluable life skill for younger generations, just as pitching tents and living in the dirt were invaluable life skills for the cavemen. Video games provide an easily accessible and fun portal in which children and adults can gain experience with technology, and dismissing this is no different biased morons who ban books because they infringe on some sense of tradition.
Heroine= Relaxing, a waste of time AND has a mortal effect on life. Therefore, a terrible thing.
Teen pregnency= Bleh... Entertaining (I guess?), a waste of time AND has a mortal effect on life. Therefore, a terrible thing.
I think it's just wrong to compare gaming to teen pregnency and heroine. Gaming does not have a mortal effect on your life, and it (probably) won't screw up your life. Teen pregnency and heroine WILL screw up your life.
