If Spore does have a subscription fee, many people would not buy it. It may be an upgrade, but is it worth a cost? Many people wouldn't buy it because of this, as a continuing cost isn't worth it.

In addition to dropping hints about new platforms, Gibeau also hinted that Spore might not be entirely free of charge. He told analysts that the online mode of the game could be an "opportunity" for an "expanded digital revenue stream." He did not elaborate if said stream entailed microtransactions, in-game advertising, subscription fees, or any combination of the three.

If there was subscription requirement to play online with others, I wouldn't bother.

But I'd still get the game SO LONG as you could still do everything else (in other words, just couldn't interact with other players)....I'd hope you'd still be able to import other people's creature designs and such, so when you go to other worlds, you can see what has been created...

Pity if they do make it a pay to subscribe based thing. The part of colonising planets sounds like a hecka lot of fun. Hopefully they keep the basic features for those who don't want to subscribe to play it online.

Only because no developers of subscription games bother with a console built up primarily of gamers that haven't got access to a credit card... Another limitation of the Wii.

Ouch, except the whole announcement of their pay model service launching later this year nukes your present statement. Better luck next time.

Yeah, because parents these days lack credit cards and the extra 9 million people that own the Wii rather than a PS3 are all kids. What a limitation, not having to pay for a subscription? That's just terrible.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind paying once just to check it out. It just sounds like too much fun to miss out on.

Im not gonna pay for the online stuff, but still it wont prevent me from getting the game. Single player looks just as awesome. Cant wait for this game to be release.

Hopefully the basic features don't require a monthly subscription fee, because I've been looking forward to this (and hoping it will be released on Xbox 360 for a LONG time.
