The Metal Gear Solid 4 boxart has been sighted. Featured on Amazon, the PS3 retail cover art features none other than good "old" Snake in all his geriatric glory. He may be old, but he can still accomplish a mission.

Epic. Although it's pretty low quality. If it is in fact the real boxart, it looks like it has been upscaled from a smaller image. Take note of the Tactical Espionage Action part.

I dunno, it looks like it has a decent enough resolution. Besides, I doubt most people are gonna buy the game solely on the boxart.

You don't know what you're talking about then. The resolution isn't that high. It's clearly upscaled.

This isn't meant to be threatening or derogatory, it's just the truth. Please trust me, I know what I'm talking about. The resolution should be much higher. That doesn't mean this isn't the boxart, it just means this isn't a very good picture of said boxart.

You would be surprised at the stupidity of the average casual gamer

Well then it's the idiot's loss to buy on boxart alone. I don't think it's that bad of a boxart design; I saw MGS3 for Xbox and almost threw up...

Besides, MGS4 is almost like Snake's revelations; he does a lot of looking back, so it's reasonable to have his face there, especially a worried one.

eh I don't really like it. As the final game in the series, It doesn't catch the essence of Metal Gear Solid, and I thought they would use the traditional art style. Hopefully the limited edition looks different.

    I don't like it.

Hopefully the special edition will be different.

I have to agree, the boxart looks very "mehish".

I don't really like it but in the end, its the game that counts. ^^

Not the best boxart around...hope to see the special edition with an improvement. Won't be the end of the world, though, as Sub mentions, it's the game that counts.

I don't think it's too bad. It's not great, but it's not the worst either.

I reckon there would be a fair few people who do. Same goes for DVD covers and book covers. If it looks good, then people will be more inclined to pick it up and read the summary on the back.

Sorry but Metal Gear Solid isn't going to do well because of random people seeing a game with a cool box (or alternatively not a cool box) in the store. It's going to do well because it's *bleep*ing Metal Gear Solid and is immensely popular.

        Congratulations on missing my point.

I never said anything about games selling well solely due to their boxart.

You fail to comprehend the fact that there are next to NO people that own a 400-600 dollar console and not keep up with the games.

The DVD movie industry, where there are millions of movies available, is so much of a different story compared to the gaming industry. The quantity of games pales in comparison to movies. Box art can definitely play a major role in movies where there are so many available and DVD players available for as cheap as 10 bucks and everyone and their grandmother has one. But when you plop down 400 to 600 dollars for a game console you're going to keep up with games and know what you want before you buy it. It's as simple as that.

          Good game fool.

All that aside, who are you to determine what is and isn't considered cool and popular? How do you know this won't catch peoples attention? How are you supposed to design a boxart to be cool? Some people prefer simplicity like me, this boxart is great for that. Others don't. You can't win them all over. Deal with it.

jmac's point was valid, whether or not it coincided with the one you were trying to make, GG.

It all boils down to the fact that if you are buying a game, you should know what game you are buying, rather than just knowing what its appearance is. If you're buying solely on boxart alone, you. Are. An. Idiot.

She didn't say they would buy it based off the box cover, she said it would incline people to be interested to pick it up and read the synopsis thats her point. We all know what your saying though

The boxart might look abit bland and boring but it can't hold what the game has in stall for us all.

Its probably just a fill in. You know how some online retailers find an image and post it as the boxart. Besides, I think it blows. I liked the other one better. I mean, is Snake's face really gonna lure in potential customers to buy the game? "Hey! There's an old scruffy guy on the cover. It must be a good game. Lets get it!"

I think not. Go back to the other one please.

That could be a good possibility. Just a cover to fill in until the real one is released.

That looks really good though the detail put into "old" Snake seems to make the image look rubbery =/

It may just be a placeholder they released to sites before the actual boxart is released.

"Dissolving Snake" > This. Obviously this is not the final boxart, since when has a MGS cover looked less than exotic?

They should have the more exotic boxart for the Limited Edition, I mean...when I'm gonna pick it up in the mail, the first thing I see should be very visually appealing.
