ROM CHECK FAIL passes the test

chautemoc | April 07, 2008 | News | PC
Take every classic old-school game you can think of, a few psilocybin mushrooms and throw it all in a blender and have at 'er. Drinking it will have a similar effect on you as this new old-school game called ROM CHECK FAIL, it’s a homebrew PC title that’s freely downloadable and doesn't require MAME or anything like that.
Imagine you’re playing Pac-Man…and then the game fritzes out and turns the ghosts into the tumbling boulders from Asteroids. But instead of Pac-Man, you’ve been transformed into the car from Spy Hunter. That’s ROM CHECK FAIL in a nutshell. The goal is simple: complete the level by defeating all the enemies. The problem is that every five to ten seconds the game will glitch out and transform your character, the enemy sprites, and the environments into ones from other games. And very rarely with the three ever match.

So basically, it jumps from one mix of games, to another?

Essentially, it is a bunch of minigames meshed together...

It reminds me a bit of Warioware >_>

Ha, I just downloaded this game, and it's addicting. It's sometimes frustrating when it switches and puts you in a position where you can't move and the enemies can, and you have no chance of living, but it's a blast. It's especially fun when you're jumping on asteroids with Mario. xD

I tried it. yeah, it is a bit addicting. Though it is REALLY annoying sometimes, when the game 'glitches', and gets you killed somehow....

Plus, it is freakin' small -_- I'd have much more fun if it was at least 400 pixels tall -_- Preferably full screen though...

I beat it, sorta. What it does, is cycles over and everything is faster.

Sometimes you dying is inevitable. Like, you spawn in that Invaders weapon, and since you can't move up or down (only horizontally), you're generally open to enemy attack....

That, and a couple other annoying deaths (like spawning right below a sea of enemies)

    EDIT (can't post again)

Bah, there is a glitch (ironic, a game about glitches, glitching....or is it?)

I got stuck in a wall (My Pac-man version just rode straight through a wall when in invulnerable [faded look] status)...And I was part way through my second cycle >_< I was doing fairly well -_-
